No evacuation orders will be issued in Miami-Dade County yet, Mayor Carlos Gimenez said Wednesday, warning that people living on barrier islands and low-lying mainland areas may still be asked to leave ahead of Hurricane Irma.
Gimenez had been ready to instruct residents to get out, but he said the 11 a.m. Irma advisory from the National Hurricane Center gave him pause.
The storms slowing down, giving us a little bit more time, Gimenez said from the countys emergency operations center in Doral.
Nearly half a million residents who live in storm-surge zones A and B could be asked to leave before Irma hits, Gimenez said. That evacuation of about 470,000 people would take about 26 hours, according to county estimates.

“You dont have to agree with my opinion. I really dont care.”
Just trying put out the best available info. If you chose to ignore it fine.
Just talked to her, she's been on the road for an hour or so and says "the Turnpike is completely bumper to bumper... I hope I didn't make a mistake!".
I just walked around to my immediate neighbors' houses to see who all is staying put... pretty much everyone is staying. I feel a little better knowing there will be plenty of folks around... especially for later... and ex-NYC cop next door, a gun collector across the street.
I used to live there.
That is one major reason why I left.....................
Ignore? Ha. I’m the one that said “leave asap” and pointed to the NHC track up the coast.
“Ignore? Ha. Im the one that said leave asap and pointed to the NHC track up the coast.”
And I was the one that gave you all the valid info so as to make a correct decision instead of a snap-judgement call based on out-dated data ...
I lived in Ft. Lauderdale in the late 50’s during my elementary school years. There were 83,000 people at that time. I went back in 1974 to apply for a job, and was astounded at the massive growth, and decay in areas that had been prosperous in the 50’s.
Andy Town was gone, and Carol City was sitting in what had been everglades. Too, too big.
I decided that North Florida was a better place to settle down and raise a family.
Yea, we've been talking about looking for somewhere else to move to as well... not so much because of hurricanes, but those are becoming more of a factor after these situations. If the house gets leveled, it might happen sooner rather than later... although hoping that's not the case!
Those are models, not the NHC forecast.
“Those are models, not the NHC forecast.”
Perhaps you should do a little study of how the NHC forecast is made and how they develop the ‘cone’.
In my opinion, there is only one reason why people don’t evacuate. They don’t want their shit stolen.
NHC director Ed Rappaport: “don’t pay too much attention to the models”
I’ll take NHC’s conclusions from the models over yours, they’re the experts.
The Dim controlled county wants to increase the number of martyrs to the climate change agenda. That is my cynical take on it.
As a youth I rented near the Atlantic in Mia and Laud. Didn’t care about the prop and never left.
Beach side when the bridges go up they stay up and if there is no damage to your place don’t matter cant get back home till they go down.
As an owner could never afford to live near the water.
Being a Coastie, always ready, our motto, I had supplies ready 365 and shutters for the house.Never scrambled. Never left stayed through I don’t know how many(68 till now).
The Miami mayor is a Republican and formerly he was Chief of the Miami Fire Department.
O.K. My bad. I did, honestly, make a wrong assumption about the government leadership in Miami-Dade. However, while you say that the GOPer is mayor of Miami, or is he the head of Miami-Dade county?
Miami is right
It is likely to turn north earlier than the hysteria claims
It’s almost fall
Obviously you did not take my advice and research the nhc models ...
Charley was an exception
And north port and port Charlotte took a rare hit
This storm can likely stay more offshore than folks realize and get Straits and Gulf Stresm sucked north north east
The media hypes the snot out of storms
