Trump administration ends DACA, with 6-month delay
Fox News ^ | Sept 5, 2017

The Trump administration on Tuesday announced the “orderly wind down” of the Obama-era program that gave a deportation reprieve to illegal immigrants who came to the U.S. as children – putting pressure on Congress to come up with a replacement.

“I do not favor punishing children, most of whom are now adults, for the actions of their parents. But we must also recognize that we are a nation of opportunity because we are a nation of laws,” President Trump said, in a lengthy written statement explaining the decision.

The Department of Homeland Security formally rescinded the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program, known as DACA, with a six-month delay for current recipients. According to Acting Homeland Security Secretary Elaine Duke, the interval is meant to give Congress “time to deliver on appropriate legislative solutions.”

“However, I want to be clear that no new initial requests or associated applications filed after today will be acted on,” Duke said in a written statement.

Well said. The rats have tried since the New Deal to remake society to their political advantage. They create and leave messes behind for others to clean up.

Ya know....as a NY State Conservative I usually give Red State folks the benefit of the doubt. But after Linda Graham got elected for a second time after he proved himself a bleeding heart @$$wad and a screaming faggot, I was dumbfounded. I can only ask.....WHY?

Even majorities of those who voted in primaries that Trump won overwhelmingly don’t agree with that view.

DACA is illegal and unconstitutional - it is and must remain dead. That is different from potential legislation. Favoring the deportation of people who have lived here their entire lives and brought here at like the age of 2, for example, is not a winning issue even in the most conservative of districts. If allowing them to stay (the non violent criminals, of course) with legal status (not citizenship) is attached to wall (or at least fence) funding and fully secure immigration system that would be an extraordinarily good outcome. They must also be required to fully assimilate - learn our system of government, our constitution, be functionally literate in English, etc. so they will be a benefit rather than a drag on the economy - that is both for their benefit and the country as a whole. All of that is not the goal of the Democrats - they are merely pawns in a scheme - which is why their so-called compassion is irritating - the use of human beings to exploit and keep in poverty and isolated from the rest of society without a common language to benefit them politically is unconscionable.

I predict that Trump will veto it and be sustained by the Supreme Court.

Sustained by the Supreme Court? A veto? How would that work? Are you suggesting a case would be heard suing the President for not signing a bill?

Agree - President Trump does not want to deport kids, but he also does not want a policy enacted under the guise of helping these kids which in reality is designed to create an open border floodgate. Often times a stated policy has ulterior motives - such as DACA.

He could have been defeated last time around with a single, strong candidate running against him - instead a bunch of candidates ran causing their to be a very fractured message and he survived among the chaos. Graham’s position on amnesty goes far, far beyond the “Dreamers” and is full on open borders.

It would be quite ironic if he were to be challenged by a conservative Latino next time around and defeated.

No, what I meant to imply was that if Congress was to override Trump’s veto, it would eventually get to the Supreme Court and be struck down as unconstitutional.

And on a positive note, we should proactively re-frame the debate. Consider that we are sending hundreds of thousands of American-educated youth home. They bring our education, our values, and uplifting so they can fix their home countries. That is invaluable aid to these countries and reverses the brain-drain that might have contributed to some of these countries ills.

That's the rationale behind student visas. They'll love us, they'll go home and love us more. Like Pappa Obama, did his loving here, and at home.

Cynics like me think it's about tuition $.

Personally, educational institutions which receive taxpayer money, I'd prefer they admit citizens first.

Disclosure, I read the article and the comments

Yes, it's a controversial issue, I'd probably come down on the side of giving work permits to many of those educated here with clean records. Many would disagree. Which imo misses the point.

We have a President who has on balance spent more of his life as a Democrat than a Republican.

I'll resist relating the Democrat retelling his many faults and bigotries to that prior political persuasion

He's the Chief Executive of the United States of America. Having run a large business prior to assuming the position of President, it's reasonable to assume he has an understanding of, and would be protective of, Executive Authority.

We have here a highly questionable, as in violation of the law, action of a prior Executive. Rescinding it reduces the power of the Executive, President Trump and his successors. Not something an Executive, much less a President, wishes to do. Even in the case of a questionable action.

I've no idea if he opposes DACA, it's irrelevant in this context.

As Chief Executive he voids DACA, diminishing Executive power, and offers the Legislature the opportunity to address the issue in a Constitutional fashion.

I find that amazingly refreshing, and am hard pressed to think of examples in the last few decades. Kudus to President Trump.

Great reply re our pretend republicans or undocumented democrats!

Yes, Undocumented Democrats. Any Republican that would undermine the rule of law, negate our borders and sovereignty, are not Republicans. Amnesty begets more amnesty. Follow the laws, deport illegal aliens. Anyone that proposes, supports, and votes for amnesty is an undocumented Democrat. Anyone that undermines President Trump at every turn is an undocumented Democrat.

With DACA being rescinded, the Obama Presidential Library, will now only consist of golf clubs, a losing March Madness bracket, selfie stick, unused red line, some worn out Mom jeans, an almost empty school lunch tray, a pair of 5lb dumbbells, illegally unmasked wiretaps of Trump of his campaign team, a fake birth certificate, a bunch of cancelled checks to Iran, a teleprompter, and his wife’s jock strap.

DACA is officially dead. No way congress musters enough votes on an agreed law that president Trump will sign.
