The Western US is facing cataclysmic forest fires, at least one started by idiot boys throwing fireworks in Eagle Creek area, near Multnomah Lodge, in the COLUMBIA GORGE - a greenie paradise. I-84 is closed near Multnomah Files to Exit 62, just west of Hood River.

Per Oregon Legislator from Hood River, Mark Johnson..."Eagle Creek fire has grown to 15,000 acres...made "a run to the west about 13 miles in 16 hours yesterday. Spot fires are now very close to the Bull Run watershed to the south. ..."currently the highest priority fire in Oregon."

Spoke with a friend who’s at Fairmont Hot Springs and he said it’s raining ash! Big ash! BTW, I grew up near Fairmont.

here in Eastern Washington we are smoked in with very unhealthy to hazardous air conditions...we're getting smoke from central Washington, Oregon, and Idaho and Montana...

fires threaten the historic Glacier Hotel and its already destroyed on backwoods hotel...

they tell us not to go outside...

the smoke invades your house...afraid to open windows or use the air conditioner...

its typical here not to get rain for several weeks in the summer,but this year the dry season started way early like early June for us here and we've not had measurable drop since...

our only advantage NOW is that we have a great acquifer that can keep lawns etc pretty green....

husband is heading elk hunting in the Imnaha area....archery...his brother is coming from Portland area and I know he'll have to take several detours thru the gorge...

get his...the fire jumped over to the Washington side....unbelievable...

We were in Estes on Sunday. In RMNP air was pretty clear above 8,000 feet. Plan to get up high.

There is a lot of daily variability.

2,600 sq miles of fire are not going out until temps drop and snow flies.

Wal-Mar sells ‘vent filters’. Someone told me they are called ‘heat registers’? Fuzzy memory alert. But in a pinch you could jury rig something. Just be sure it's porous enough that it doesn't strain the AC system.

The large timber corporations that hold huge privately owned forests don’t want the competition from smaller lumber companies using public forests for their logs.

The corps want the National Forests in the West to burn. The National Forests comply with their wishes by allowing forests to get choked with underbrush and deadfall (fuel) and allowing insects (bark beetle) to further weaken trees to drought and disease.
