exas Sen. Ted Cruz said President Donald Trump "speaks in ways that I wouldn't" on North Korea but that it helps to "have a president who is strong."
The Republican senator told ABC News "This Week" co-anchor Martha Raddatz that if North Korea's claim that it successfully tested a hydrogen bomb Sunday is true, it is "a serious escalation in their ability to commit mass acts of murder" that will spur calls for "further serious steps to prevent North Korea from using those weapons."
"North Korea right now, its the most dangerous place on the face of the planet," Cruz said on "This Week" Sunday. "Kim Jong Un, whos the dictator there, he is radical, he is unpredictable, he is extreme, and hes getting more and more dangerous weapons."
Raddatz asked Cruz about Trump's prior warning that the United States would respond with "fire and fury" to any further provocations from North Korea.
"Do you think [the president's threat] hurt or helped?" she asked.
"The president speaks in ways that I wouldn't speak, but that is his prerogative," the Texas senator said. "I do think it helps for North Korea and for China to understand that we have a president who is strong."
"I think the president is right that Kim Jong Un and other bullies only understand and respect strength, that weakness, that appeasement, encourages this action," Cruz said.
He added, "In term of what happens, listen, no rational person wants to see a military conflict with North Korea, with the nuclear weapons ... [In] almost any scenario, you're looking at tens of thousands or hundreds of thousands of casualties in a matter of days.'

CFR Wifie, non-native Cruz opines?
Give me a break.
Though I’ll stipulate that Cruz is >> than the current crop of RINO Senators.
Did everyone see his awful, hanger-on, Uriah Heep act with Trump this weekend? Yikes.
Lyn’ Ted. Not surprised.
Yep.
Ted is probably being truthful here, but unlike most go-along to get-along GOP, Ted is able to see the advantage of Trumps bold statements. In effect, Cruz has endorsed this more direct approach.
Even for GOP congress who support the president, it’s going to take a while for them to change their timid habits, and be prepared for the ‘rages’ acted out by the left. Being ‘nice’ is not nearly enough. You have to bite back here and there. Otherwise, you can spend your entire career hiding, the way Paul Ryan and McConnell were quite content to do until Donald Trump rocked the boat.
The news people don’t get what a hydrogen bomb means.
Still 6.3 richter is about 40 kilotons
About the max blast size of a tac nuke shell fired from an 8” howitzer.
A Bomb = death toll in tens of thousands size of blast measured in kilotons
H Bomb = death toll in millions size of blast measured in megatons
LA vs LA basin
If a crazy guy is running around your neighborhood with an AK shooting into the ground, do you say, well he hasn’t hurt anyone yet.
Can you imagine the left/greenpeace/Algore rage if we conducted a live weapon nuclear test?
Most dangerous guy on the planet is a nutcase with a nuke.
Technology probably supplied from Pakistan paid for with Obama cash.
Still 40K will ruin your day.
Let’s just hope it isn’t ours.
Cruz still has to ‘splain why he promoted the meme that Trump created the antifas at his rallies.
Nothing wrong witj2what Cruz said....relax folks
The article was written in such a way to disparage both Trump and Cruz and appear to be a wedge between them. But his remarks were actually supportive and complimentary. The media knows how to work a room and drive wedges against any nonliberal. Works every time, even with Trumps solid base. The media is trying to suggest that Trump is losing his base - he is not. But if they can make dissension the focus, then their plan is working.
Yes. I wondered where Heidi was.
Love it!
Embarrassing!
Stupid FReepers believing ABC’s spin on what Cruz said and how he said it.
Yes, let’s damn one of the finest conservative senators we’ve got. Because ABC says we should.
That’s the way I see it too. They make it so easy for those that they despise. We can only win with unity..otherwise, Trump will never be able to get a single thing done. Put hatred for Cruz aside, and use your damn heads. To all of those who are stuck in the past election, get over it. I am not talking about Democrats, but haters on the right as well. We must learn how to fight the enemy, and it is not by offering yourself up as a carving knife for them. I would recommend to all of the Cruz haters, all of the Bush haters, etc. - Put aside your petty dislikes and become part of the team..otherwise, you will remain a tool of the left.
“... that will spur calls for “further serious steps to prevent North Korea from using those weapons.”
Did y’all catch the snake charmer’s choice of words here? Cruz has progressed from not allowing the Norks to possess nuclear weapons, to not allowing their “use.”
No “rational person” wants a military war with the Norks ... Right, Ted, let’s instead have Nork nukes landing on U.S. soil - because that’d be a much better solution.
Thank God this mealy-mouthed clown did not win the nomination.
Well, at least Heidi did not get a face elbow or fall off a stage yesterday. ;)
The stupid FReepers only read headlines, and only believe MSM like ABC. Especially when it diminishes good conservatives like Ted Cruz.
Well, that’s because he’s a MAN, an American and not an emasculated, lying crapweasel
When dealing with tyrants, you can’t parse words. You have to say what you mean...and mean what you say.
Hillary would have given Kim a “reset” button, but the word would have been misspelled, and would have actually translated to “nuke us.”
