I have to say I was really shocked to see a lot of leftists come out against antifa (though of course not all-- Elizabeth Edwards). I'm shocked because the left always embraces and protects its extremists, no matter what they do (for example black lives matter thugs). This is the only time I have seen them do this, so what's the deal?

The polls were shocking to them. Middle America does not relish rioting in their home town.
I must be out of the loop. I think I’ve only heard one mild criticism of Auntie Fa.
I’m not convinced the left has turned on antifa but if and when they do it will because they will realize back violent savages who want to end America is a recipe for defeat after defeat for as far as the eye can see.

They have to set their usual wackos and idiots up as “moderates.” Right now nobody would vote for them. So quiet communism next year will be what they advocate, not mob violence. They’ve done so much damage to their brand, it’s a shot in the dark.

That said, I agree with others that I’m not really seeing the left turn on antifa.

It is for show. Another such group will be cultivated and make an appearance, just as there ACORN and the SDS before.

Bingo! Their “walk” and “talk” will not agree. They are just disclaiming any responsibility but will nothing to stop them. And may even try to surreptitiously block efforts to stop them.
They like what Auntie Fa is doing but do not want to take the blame for it. So if Dem Mayors continue to give the stand down orders, they be hung out to dry by the Dem Leaders.

Nailed it, first post. Antifa is the logical consequence of having nothing more in your pocket than opposition to Trump, and the Dems have been leaning on this since last November, and it just isn't gaining the traction they need. Pelosi didn't make the turn-around out of any sense of moral rejection, she did it because it's killing her party and she knows it.
Too much bad publicity.
But don’t write them off yet.
They may get back together again, after all the share one goal: the destruction of the US.
