Chinese Official Says China Might Invade Taiwan If Peaceful Reunification Takes Too Long
In a recent interview Wang Zaixi (王在希), a former vice-chairman of Chinas Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council, said that Beijing might resort to the use of force if peaceful re-unification between China and Taiwan takes too long.
Wangs statements echo the increasingly assertive stance of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) towards the island since Xi Jinping took office in 2012.
In the interview Wang Zaixi stated that although the Taiwan question is a complex issue that must be resolved in the long term, there must be a sense of urgency towards cross-strait reunification.
Wang blamed Taiwans democratic process for slowing down the prospect of a peaceful solution of the cross-strait issue, arguing that because of the transfer of power from the pro-unification to the pro-independence coalition the possibility of peaceful unification is gradually being lost.
In 2014 and 2015 the Guomindang, Taiwans pro-unification party, suffered major electoral setbacks, losing the parliamentary majority to the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP), which rejects rapprochement with China.

Just like it is high time that Japan and South Korea get themselves nuclear weapons to deter North Korea, so too should Taiwan acquire them to prevent the depredations of the Chinese.
very surprised the Chi-coms didn’t invade Taiwan when the magic negro was top banana.
Chi-coms had to know obammy would have done zero had Taiwan been invaded.
Taiwan (ROC) someway, somehow, needs to acquire a few deliverable nuclear weapons to back off the Communists. It is the great equalizer.
They must think the North Koreans will take out the US.
They need to go back to their war room and play that game again.
China should invade the DPRK.
And India bids them Bon voyage.
China’s threat is unacceptable. Just maybe we’ll sink their ships and devastate their mainland when they try that invasion. I hope to God we show them our resolve by smashing NK by all means necessary.
We should be arming Taiwan to the teeth. China is an expansionist power seeking hegemony over Asia, and that will directly impact the US both economically and in terms of geo-political strategy. We need to arm China’s neighbors - Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, India, Vietnam - and encourage them to stand up to the Chinese.
Think about a country that says, if our nice friendly talks fail, we’re going to invade you. I have to agree 25 well hidden American nuke missiles dispersed around Taiwan, might just send a credible message about how we view NK.
The timing on this is just baffling. You’ve got peaceful Taiwan and another neighbor that seems to have a hydrogen bomb, and brandishing it with all sorts of threatening rhetoric.
Not only does the bomb possessing nation have the bomb, but it appears it may be close to a delivery system.
So who does China address?
Doing business with a nation whose leadership is so screwed up they can’t determine risk assessment and set priorities better than this, is just nutty.
It indicates that nation is as big a risk as the neighbor nut job himself.
Kim is a massive threat to China now. Of course that’s only if China isn’t in iron clad control of his missile and bomb making programs.
Translation - Give China Taiwan or our Chia Pet nukes Guam.
There it is.
Arm every single taiwanese.
Reunification doesn’t sound very ‘peaceful’ when it is under the imminent threat of invasion. Sounds like ‘peace’ is completely under China’s thumb.
Trump needs to tell Xi that that will be the day we obliterate NK.
I know its not within Chinese culture or the thinking of Taiwan’s euro-style social democracy, but the Taiwanese need a 2nd Amendment and/or should follow the Swiss style of Army reserve planning
Send every Taiwanese soldier home with their rifle and ammunition at the end of their mandatory military service. Bring them back once every year or two for a day of updating, practice and training.
Even the most cynical or bloodthirsty communist would think very seriously about trying to invade and overthrow their independence.
How can an existing Nuclear Power suddenly become a nuclear power for the first time though?
You are aware that (declared or not) Taiwan has been a nuclear power since the early eighties, are you not?
