JACKSON, Miss. —
Jackson police have made two arrests in connection with the shooting death of Chelsie Lynn Kirschten.
Kirschten, 23, was shot and killed Aug. 17 as she sat in her car waiting on a red light at Fortification and State streets, according to police.
The gunman said nothing when he walked up to the driver’s side closed window of Kirschten’s white Pontiac G6 and shot her in the back, police said.
A passenger in Kirschten’s car told police that the gunman, who was wearing dark clothing, didn’t take anything after the shooting and walked away, investigators said.

She was shot in the back? Was she turned away, talking to the passenger? If so, timely distraction. I'd rule out her passenger having anything to do with this.

Jackson is a big city - the capital of Mississippi. I am sure there are some "no go" areas here and there, but I don't believe it is the whole city.
One looks mad at the world the other looks dense as a brick.

She could have seen the perp/gun and was turning away from it. Or the perp could have fired down and into the car, if she was short enough, the round would have entered her upper back.
I’m a Jackson native and am there 10-12 times a year because all my family is there

Kids traverse State street from night life like Hal and Mals on South State headed north to Woodland Hills or Belhaven
Both holdout white neighborhoods of more well off folk

30 years ago I might have been parked at that red light around that time of night. Coming back from movies or a friends house. Or Hal/Mals. Several colleges in that vicinity.
I was parked at that redlight, actually hubby was, on the way to have 2 of my 3 kiddos roughly 10 years ago. Both times in the wee hours of the night. I didn’t deserve to be shot for it any of those times.

The spot where she was murdered is a considered a safe area, just a block from the Baptist Hospital, with a predominately white population, and with a lot of traffic even around midnight.
