Advertisers are turning to gay couples and ethnic minorities to sell their products.
Ikea used a gay male couple to represent the diversity of modern family life in a recent campaign Ikea used a gay male couple to represent the diversity of modern family life in a recent campaign.
Advertisers are so worried about being accused of racism or homophobia they are shying away from using images of white people and straight couples.
Marketing departments are even putting diversity above relevance to their target audience to avoid accusations of bigotry, a survey of 500 companies has found.
A third of advertisers questioned said they had used fewer white models and heterosexual couples over the past year. More than a third of these said they were taking this approach to prevent perceived discrimination.
The findings are likely to trigger accusations of political correctness but show a marked change in attitudes in the advertising industry, which has until recently had a reputation for under-representing ethnic minorities.
Brands that have featured gay couples include Lloyds.

Sure; also “pet parents” (they assume they are childless - any parent clearly sees a difference between their offspring and pets). I see bumper stickers, greeting cards (in the “loss of dog” section - seriously), endless pet food commercials...
A lot of the discretionary consumption in this country IS by childless adults; they are the driving force behind what is left of the restaurant industry in my area (outside of fast food).
So black miscegenation is bad but Asian miscegenation is ok? Thanks for clarifying that...
The Allstate commercial with the black family with the dad talking to himself because everyone has their noses in their iphones is a good commercial. “I have a new putter mom doesn’t know about and sometimes I leave the seat up on purpose.” The dad is every man and the family could be of any race. It’s selling its product, not some agenda.

The pet “business” is pure Madison Ave and has nothing to do with whether a person is childless or not.
I’ve been given a lot of the pet items that are on sale now, they are just kitschy, fun things.
We all have pets in my family, primarily dogs, and we all also have kids, and our kids have kids-——and dogs.
.
Do you have a “proud pet parent” bumper sticker?
I’ve noticed that about Food Network.
Rarely watch HGTV.
Yes, those commercials are absurd when one lives within a few miles of a city. At least they make the white devils unshaven...
Exactly - and in some cases the “filler” is almost as long as the commercials. I never watched Seinfeld until I saw some re-runs long after the show was done; I was shocked at how much of any episode was commercials.
A firm going by the name BudgetBlinds was running ads with a pair of males reading a script that made them sound like worthless, mentally retarded pansies married to women that make outstanding decisions. I guarantee that I will NEVER purchase a product from that company or any other that uses that meme as an advertising construct.
Which of my comments are you saying you have never seen after 20 years on the job?
Having one Privileged Oppressor in an ad is a sin.
Having two Privileged Oppressors together as a couple in an ad would double the sin.
Words cannot describe the sheer horror of an ad that also included a baby Privileged Oppressor.
About a white burglar in a black neighborhood.
Oh, yeah. I suspect if you ask a veteran cop, he will tell you he has never seen that in his 20 years as well.
Ferguson riots vet thanks.
We got a break this year.
“Do you have a proud pet parent bumper sticker?”
Not yet,but with a birthday coming up,who knows? :-)
(It would NEVER go on my car-—refrig maybe.)
