Gone With the Wind will be gone from The Orpheums summer movie series, the theaters board said Friday.
The Orpheum Theatre Group decided not to include the 1939 movie about a plantation in the Civil War-era South in its 2018 Summer Movie Series after feedback from patrons following the last screening Aug. 11.
As an organization whose stated mission is to entertain, educate and enlighten the communities it serves, the Orpheum cannot show a film that is insensitive to a large segment of its local population, the theaters operators said in a statement.
Memphis population is about 64 percent African-American.

I seem to recall in a DVD box set of the movies, there was a disc dedicated to trailers and interviews and commentary and other features of interest. One item was an interview with Coppola done back in 1974 or thereabouts and in it, he adamantly defended the movies and said that the last thing he ever intended was to be derogatory towards Italians.
These people don't want to 'Birf' babies. They want to abort them.
No kidding. It’s unreal.
No it never occurred to totalitarian types such as these, that nobody is forced to go see a movie.
They are totalitarians, thus, want to be the ones who decide what you are allowed to see, and what is to be censored.
I guess anything with a confederate flag will be banned. All those movies that portray any southerners. Its an F’n Joke, I’d say that the majority of the people here today had 0% involvement in the CW. Some of us came here long afterwards and only learned from the history classes in school. Europe was full of civil wars, Asia had it’s share, along with many other nations of the world. Looking back at the American one, it was no where anything like the Russian revolution, or the Chinese CW. It was a war, but the inhumanity was never on the scale of the other ones. There are no hidden mass graves, From what I’ve seen in many of the CW pictures, the freed slaves looked to be in better shape that the prisoners in Elmyra or Andersonville. None of the former slaves appear like they they came out of Auschwitz, Berkenau, Kolyma, or Vorkuta as a Dokhodiaga. Now, look at Europe and Russia, there are still remains there, and many people still alive today who have living memories of those places and events there. They are reminders of “Never Again”. Are they going to erase that part of History? The past is the past, it won’t be changed by tearing down statues or removing movies etc.etc.. The only thing that will be removed is your Freedom. It starts this way, and eventually ends up in an Auschwitz or a Kolyma as a Dokhodiaga. Remember, most of those regimes started out with about 1/3 of the population’s support, because the other 2/3rds sat back and did nothing. Don’t let it happen here. Its the 2/3rds who should be revolting.
School libraries already do.
Succinctly & perfectly well stated.
Most of them don’t know what books are so book-burning won’b be next, but DDOSing websites that they disagree with will.
They are the new Puritans. That's what they should be calling themselves instead of Progressives.
Is Roots and The Color Purple considered insensitive?
I’ve got it on Betamax, VHS, DVD, and Blu Ray....so I’m safe.
“I saw it in the window and just had to have it”.
Things not insensitive to the left.
1.Abortion
2.Cop killing
3.Looting
4.Riots
5.Illegal lawn rangers and house keepers
6.Knock out game
7.Anything that is logic
I'll bet Rhett pain her well when they moved to Atlanta. And he got her that red taffeta petticoat.
I think she was sweet on Mr. Rhett.
“but she did get free room and board, free food, clothing, medical care, etc, etc, as compensation.”
“And if those damn yankees set you free, all those freebies comes to an end.”
Sounds like a modern day campaign commercial for many democrat politicians, doesnt it? :-)
Then replace it with “Birth of a Nation.”
