Shaw: “Benny Goodman plays clarinet; I play music.” Whoa! What a slam! There was a renewed interest in the tune after the war, and Artie got a hit out of it. This is not a ballad treatment of the song; in 1945 he lets it swing.

BING CROSBY: ”LOVE WALKED IN”

In the Twenties when he worked with Paul Whiteman and Bix Beiderbecke, Bing was a hard drinking badass and a brawler. He moderated his style in the Thirties when he became America’s top baritone crooner. Surprisingly, he recorded very little Gershwin over the years in spite of Whiteman’s close association with the composer. This is Bing’s take on the song from 1947, and it’s a straightforward ballad.
