Recommendation? Need a Really Comfortable Travel Car, Think Sofa, With Wheels.

Recent car history Mazda MPV 1998 back when it was a great vehicle Xterra Golf TDi Jeep Sahara Unlimited

Now I need a travelin' car. I would keep the Jeep but it is too noisy.

Stopped in at a Volvo dealership and tried a s60, too stiff a ride for long trips and not comfortable seats.

Any recommendations for a really comfortable car? Just for me and perhaps one other passenger and our luggage?

I am thinking of a 2015 or 2016. All wheel drive would be nice. A little retro would be fine too.

Any ideas?

Love my Flex. And it is even comfortable in the back seat. My daughter had a large Transit in China and we all fit in with a driver. Would love to try the Connect, tho. Can get Friends and neighbors discount for you from Ford if you choose one.

Here is your new car:

Per this review this is one of the amenities:

One final technological flourish is the touch-sensitive door system that allows "your assistant or valet" to lightly touch the sensor on the handle and set in motion the automatic whispering close of the door to leave you cosseted inside slumped in the seats inspired by the classic Eames lounge chair of 1956. Of course, being a Phantom, patrons will be able to commission different seating choices, including a lounge seat and even a new sleeping seat.

No need to thank me, but I would be happy to be your “assistant or valet” so long as I can also be your driver.

Buy a pre owned Lexus ES 350. Will come with a warranty from the Lexus dealer. Heated and cooled seats. Safe too. Comes with knee air bags and side impacts for all 4 doors. I had one and no issues in over 260k miles. I drove like a maniac in that too. Cruise set at 126mph on I-80 coming from Wendover, NV to DOC a lot. I’ve grown up a bit since then.

Suggest you look at a Ford Fusion Sport - 2.7 twin-turbo V6, 325hp, quiet with good ride (magnetic adaptive suspension) Good road car! I had a Subaru Outback which was well-built and had a good seating position but it was fairly noisy and I never got used to the CVT transmission.

Biggest, heaviest, Caddy or Lincoln you can get your hands on. I always assumed that Sport Coupe type cars were better for 1000 mile road trips because they would keep you awake with their noise and ride. One say just for the heck of it I rented a Town Car for one trip and the difference was night and day! I was FAR less fatigued and sore after 1000 miles. The soft seat and smooth ride did not lull me to sleep as I was afraid it might. I never came close to getting tired and sleepy. I was fresh from start to finish, 1000 miles alone, nonstop except for gas.

Check out the Lincoln LS...The 2006 and older, not the new MK...Lower mileage clean units can be had for 5-6K$ if you don’t mind looking around a bit...

Very nice quiet highway ride while still handling well..A road hugger with proper tires...Comfortable for 5, and big trunk...

3.9L V-8 and 5spd w/OD trans gives me 29 highway and 21 around town...Good road car...

I bet you could get a Ford 500 really really cheap. I have always thot the car offered considerable value, maybe it’s a step down from a Lincoln Town Car. But the model has AFAIK never taken off in terms of popularity. For what reason I don’t know, maybe the folks who want that really want a Town Car.

This isn’t a reco based upon personal experience of any kind other than visiting a car lot one day and thinking “holy crap, that’s cheap for that car”. It’s just a free idea tossed out there. Good luck!

Some great suggestions on this thread. Baby Sis and my late Mom had Lexuses...Lexi? Lexera? Dang it, I hate pop quizzes. Anyway, they got them certified pre-owned and they're very smooth and comfortable. My Cuz has a Lincoln Town Car and I've ridden in that too. Very nice, isolates you well from the obnoxious parts of the outside environment. She says she wants to be buried in it. Her husband says it's because she'll need the air conditioning where she's going.

Single most comfortable car I've ever ridden in was a Daimler that was being used as a limo in Hong Kong. I wasn't driving - no way I'd ever drive in that madhouse anyway.

I'm running a Subaru WRX at the moment and just got back from a couple of six-hour drives to and from the eclipse totality zone. This would NOT be a car I'd recommend, it's sprung for racing and you feel the pavement because you're supposed to. Performance tires with hard sidewalls make it worse. Don't even.

Crown Vic or Grand Marquis, the most comfortable long range road car ever made.

They stopped making them in 2011.

Rear wheel drive - you can drive them in the snow but it takes some practice.

1951 Nash Statesman; Two-door models included Nash's exclusive "Airliner Reclining" front seat, that was optional on the four-door sedans and could be converted to form a bed.

We just picked up a used Lincoln Navigator. Very comfortable, heated and cooled leather seats, lots of leg room, separate DVD players in the headrest for the kids, lots of room. No, it won’t save on gas but right for my family’s needs.

Depending upon your budget and your fuel efficiency requirements, I was very impressed with a new Nissan Armada that I rented, very smooth riding and very spacious, great mileage for a full size V8 with 4x4, 20 highway. I was impressed enough to look up off-lease year old models, you can find a base model like the one I rented in the low 30’s. Not stripped in the least, it has everything but leather, sunroof and automatic rear hatch opener as far as I could tell. Nice fabric, charcoal with brown piping, sort of like microfiber ultrasuede. Very capable 4x4, I rented it to go to the 4x4 area of the northern Outer Banks, made it up and down the beach, over dunes, through deep dry sand, no problems whatsoever. Nice looking vehicle, too.
