Recommendation? Need a Really Comfortable Travel Car, Think Sofa, With Wheels.
Recent car history Mazda MPV 1998 back when it was a great vehicle Xterra Golf TDi Jeep Sahara Unlimited
Now I need a travelin' car. I would keep the Jeep but it is too noisy.
Stopped in at a Volvo dealership and tried a s60, too stiff a ride for long trips and not comfortable seats.
Any recommendations for a really comfortable car? Just for me and perhaps one other passenger and our luggage?
I am thinking of a 2015 or 2016. All wheel drive would be nice. A little retro would be fine too.
Any ideas?

A 1965-67 Ford Full size sedan. So quiet and nice to drive if you have the 390 4V.
We had a ‘65 LtD. The first year of that model, which was really just a Galaxie with a few trim labels in those years.
Left it sit in the unheated garage for 5 months. Got in it and spun the key and 1/2 a crank later it was running smooth as silk.
Took it across several states with A brother, A father, A mother, and a dog. Picked up another brother for part of the trip. Never struggled and never felt crowded.
They do have a tendency to rust out the frames.
My wife's Toyota Highlander is a comfortable and roomy vehicle while still being solid on the road.
Mrs. Pode drives a 2011 Buick Lucerne. Great travel car especially if you can find one with a bench seat in front instead of the console.
If you are going to do 10 days on the road, do it in a Cadillac.
Accept no substitute.
Rent one if you have to.
2011 Cadillac DTS. Bought it from wife’s family after mother-in-law passed three years ago. Had 18k on it, and we’ve put another 70k on it. Several trips to Florida, Smokey Mountains, Oklahoma, and one trip to Yellowstone, from home base in North Louisiana.
Very comfy ride, it cruised up to 85 (out west) with no strain. V8 engine. Decent gas mileage, about 22-24 at 70 to 75 mph on the interstate.
Only mechanical trouble so far has been the smog stuff. Runs on Walmart cheap grade gasoline.
Would buy another just like it with no qualms.

I have a ‘12 Toyota Avalon. Very comfortable inside and has a decent V-6. The back seat is extremely roomy and the back seats recline. One of my friends told me that the interior is way more comfortable than his father in law’s Caddy.
I reviewed the new Continental a few months ago. Never a fan of lincolns but this new model blew me away. Comfortable, powerful and with one of the best interiors I’ve seen.
Can be had in awd as well.
Not cheap or small, though.

We have an 04 expedition; best seats of any SUV for sure, but 14 MPG with only 28 gallon tank is a bit crazy.
Every full size SUV should have at least a 40 gallon tank.

Cadillacs are way too ugly to be seen in :o)

If you buy any AWD car, be sure to have the transmission cooling system flushed every 20,000 miles.
If the cooler plugs up they overheat severely.

Thanks!
wouldn’t want to be that guy facing a lowbridge...lol
I drive a 2015 Subaru Outback. Great travel car with one issue, if you have long legs the seats are not long enough (front to back) to provide good thigh support.
____________
Well my legs are long for a short person.
Overall, I find Toyotas to have good seats if you like a more upright chair type seating with extra leg room (esp. Sequioa, Avalon). GMC trucks and full size SUVs are also really good but not the GMC crossovers (Terrain, Acadia etc).
Let me know when you decide to trade the Avalon.
You didn’t order it in the Metallic Pea?
[ Trunk big enough for several bodies, CHECK ]
How many do you normally carry? LOL
Brother you don’t want leather. Leather is hot....Leather cracks...
Go ahead, start it right up. That’s American horsepower!
Know what I like best? The price.....

Funny, for some reason I keep picturing you driving a ‘32 Ford with a yellow paint job. ;)
I love the jet-age streamlining!
(ah, America of days gone by...)
