Harvey’s intensity and rainfall potential tied to global warming

Global warming is making the oceans hotter, fueling the intensity and flooding potential of storms like Harvey, climate scientists said as the hurricane approached.

Driven by higher-than-average temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico, Harvey quickly intensified Thursday and is likely to reach Category 3 hurricane status before it hits the Texas Coast.

The average temperature for most of the Gulf was 86 degrees, said Kevin Trenberth, a climate scientist with the National Center for Atmospheric Research in Boulder, Colorado.

“That makes it almost the hottest spot on the planet” for sea surface temperatures, Trenberth said. “It’s an area that’s ripe for vigorous development to occur.”

Astounding, potential, catastrophic....... How many more descriptors can we apply? How about a “neo”-hurricane. That makes it really really evil.

Hurucanes are Trumps fault

The hurricanes in the mid-1800’s were more fierce; guess they didn’t know about global warming then.

Hurricanes were dry and calm before Global Warming.

Are sunny days in May ever due to global warming? How can something natural cause only “bad” things to happen as judged by mankind? This would suggest

A. Global warming is both sentient and malevolent.

or

B. Global warming is the monster under the bed. A phantom to blame for all ills.

Driven by higher-than-average temperatures in the Gulf of Mexico,

...

Since Global Warming, half of all temperatures have been above average.

Yeah, it’s the first ever Category 2 hurricane in the Gulf during Hurricane Season.

Unprecedented!

Amazing!

Whatever will any of us racist southerners do!?

Someone alert the UN!

Meanwhile, it’s so cool here in the New York City area that I had to wear a light jacket this morning. I can’t remember the last time I had to do that on a clear, sunny morning in August.

Climate change caused the lull in hurricanes.

Climate change caused the sudden appearance of hurricanes.

Climate change causes the Northern Hemisphere to be hot during June, July, and August.

Climate change causes the same area to be cold during December, January, and February.

Climate change caused everything that liberals hate. It’s the worst during Republican Presidential Administrations.

Climate change will end the world in 10 years. Make that 5 years. OK, OK, next year.

Because no other hurricane in history gained strength over the gulf. Clearly a new phenomenon.

My God. If only Trump hadn’t pulled us out of the Paris Accords, this disaster wouldn’t be happening.

OK first time I heard it for this storm...time to take a drink. Then one for every time the media mentions climate change until the hurricane peters out. I expect to be sober by halloween.

The climate is cooling not warming. Based on the actual science when you have a greater temperature variance from the tropics to the poles...during cooling times....you get stronger hurricanes.

Wow. Do they believe their own hype, or is it just to fool the readers?

If this hurricane will reach a category 3 before landfall because of global warming, what caused the category 4 hurricane in 1900?
