Now for the top story tonight. Donald Trump giving a big foreign policy address yesterday in Washington. He joins us now from Evansville, Indiana.
First of all, you did not mention Afghanistan in the address. We have got about 10,000 troops there right now. The place is still in chaos after 13 years. What exactly will you do about Afghanistan?
DONALD TRUMP (R), PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE: I would stay in Afghanistan. It's probably the one place we should have gone in the Middle East because it's adjacent and right next to Pakistan which has nuclear weapons. So I think you have to stay and do the best you can, not that it's ever going to be great but I don't think we have much of a choice. That's one place, frankly, instead of going to Iraq we probably should have gone there first. I would say in Afghanistan and only, again, because of its location next to Pakistan.
O'REILLY: All right. So you would keep the 10,000 troops there. And fight a war of attrition against the Taliban? You know, Pakistan --
TRUMP: I hate doing it, I hate doing it so much. But, again, you have nuclear weapons in Pakistan so I would do it.

Thank you
Look at that!
Good post.
I’m not a fan of this war, but I just wanted to remind people who are posted some tweet from 2013, that Presidential Candidate last year was for staying and fighting in Afghanistan due to it’s location near Pakistan. Same as he mentioned last night.
While I’m not happy with us over there or sending more troops, POTUS said he’d stay when running for President.
For all the people claiming McMaster is the puppet master now the other puppet master Bannon is gone. Trump is his own man.
Thank you. And again, I’m not for this at all, but this was for all the hysterics and posts like “OMG HE’S NOW A NEO CON WAR MONGER THANKS TO HIS NEW OVER LORD MCMASTER”
Just wanted to remind people DJT ran on staying in Afghanistan and fighting when McMaster was nowhere to be seen.
Good post, but let’s be honest here ... Over the last few years Donald Trump has been all over the map on a lot of issues. LOL.
It’s interesting that the COMMUNIST NEWS NETWORK didn’t have any story on its website this A.M. about the President’s speech...although it pained me to look.
They are such douchbags.
im talking about what he ran on as far as his stance om foreign policy. as far as I know he’s was consistent on this as a candidate. I think most people can change their views when circumstances change...look around here and just try to find a fan of GWB. how times change :)
DBs with low ratings!
he was*
Another place for a little back ground are the youtube documentaries. One that I found informative was:
The Mughal Empire (Documentary on India’s Great Mughals)

Afghanistan is a place and people of and for war.
Only power and the willingness to use brute force works.
Thank you. I’ll actually watch that later today since I’m off work.
You’re welcome. I know that some people don’t care because they’re still against sending more troops in Afghanistan. But I just wanted to remind people that presidential candidate Donald Trump gave a speech where he laid out what his foreign policy would be as president and he clearly stated that he would stay and fight in Afghanistan. So he hasn’t flipped flopped on his issue as far as being a candidate versus president.
It was an idiotic country to go into, and if anything our mucking around there, along with having cost thousands of lives and tens of thousands of to become disabled and trillions of dollars in direct and indirect costs, makes Pakistan less stable, not more so.
At one time, there were well-armed US military forces in both Afghanistan and Iraq. Between those two countries lies Iran, a country with whom the US has known no peaceful intent since 1979, when the Shah was forced from the throne. It would have been a simple thing, in 2005 and beyond, to maintain a daily overflight of Iran, both for observation purposes and as an intimidation factor, so the Iranian ayatollahs would know full well that the next overflight could well contain Massive Open-Air Burst bombs, threatening every one of their military and nuclear research facilities.
But NOOOOOO. The US had to be “gentlemanly” and not use their military for any other than “peaceful” purposes. Then we got the Wussiest of all Wussies installed in the White Hut, and it was a surrender monkey display that far outdid even the most craven retreat by any French forces anywhere.
The next play has to be from far back from the line of scrimmage. Even punting is not an option.
The other team must never have possession of the ball.
I agree but this is what Trump ran on as a candidate as part of his foreign policy platform.
It’s an interesting video.
My spouse thought is was dangerous to watch and quilt at the same time. She kept sticking herself with a pin.
YUP! I watched that interview and remember him saying that. But, he was against the IRAQ war and said so often.
Myself, I was not against either of them except, I was against the way they were fought. Initially, and especially with Obastard in office.
My best friend was in country for 36 months total till he got hurt. He said that you went swimming at your own risk in the river over there because it was contaminated by chemical weapons material the Iraqis simply dumped into the water.
The one thing EVERYONE was looking for was radioactive material.
The anti Trumpers are posting Trump tweets from the past decade- long before he was seriously considering becoming a political candidate
I think Trump put the US Afghan strategy out for study almost immediately after inauguration and reached the best conclusion he can after listening to all sides. Even the Afghans were amazed that he actually consulted them and listened to the answer in his first phone call- having been “ warned” by our treasonous State Department that the POTUS was a Doofus.
Isnt that what we want and need?
Furthermore his advisor General Kelly lost his son in Afghanistan. That adds a whole new dimension to balancing America’s interests with its sacrifices
