EXCLUSIVE: Cowardly Red Cross Pulls Out of Mar-a-Lago
Free Republic ^ | Friday, August 18, 2017 | AABEST

After being held at Mar-a-Lago for 60 years, and Donald J. Trump being gracious to in hosting them for the better part of those years the Red Cross has decided to move this year's ball to another venue.

My wife and I (who have met the president there) got the email a little while ago, which read in part:

We originally decided to keep the International Ball at Mar-a-Lago because it was the lower-cost venue in the area, and because we have held numerous successful fundraisers there over the past 60 years. However, our decision to hold the event at Mar-a-Lago has increasingly become a point of public controversy and a source of pain for many members of our Red Cross community. As such, we have decided to cancel the event next year at Mar-a-Lago

By the way, not only has Trump belonged to the Red Cross and hosted them all these years, but the President of the United States is the HONORARY CHAIRMAN of the organization.

I have been donating blood 4-5 times a year for many years. I may rethink that.

I learn new things here all the time.

Making a profit from GIs like that really irks me.

If new age, pubic schooled, university grads are their leaders, not surprised. Saddened, but not surprised. Et tu, SA?

The Red Cross was the subject of much vitriol when I was in Marine Corps boot camp. These is when I found out how the Red Cross made our servicemen pay for their coffee and donuts in war zones while others didn’t. This was confirmed by the retired Lt Col mentor that swore me in. And he would know as he flew 50 missions over Germany in 1944 and 1945. I never gave the Red Cross another dime after that. And don’t forget, the CEO makes at least $500,000 a year. And I’m sure there is additional nonmonetary compensation.

When my late husband was in Korea his father was dying back in the states. The Marines would give him leave to come home if he could find a way to get back. He went to the Red Cross and they refused to give him a dime for air fair. He went to Salvation Army and they funded his fight home and back. Never a dime for RC from us. I will think very hard before giving to SA now.

Both Red Cross and United Way are money generating orgs that give a large amount to the mucky mucks at the top of the orgs

The only one I know of that is worse is The Clinton Foundation.

Chelsea gets (or at least used to) got over 900K for running that money laundering rip-off. Probably way over a cool $Mil with *cough* expenses etc

Unreal.

RC is off the list for me.

I’ll do better about helping the Salvation Army.

I had a friend that was in the Army stationed in Alaska during the great Alaska earthquake 1964.

After the Quake the military patrolled the streets to try and prevent looting.

While on patrol, in uniform, in the middle of the night, he came across a temporary Red Cross station. When he asked for a cup of coffee they told him it would cost him 10 cents.

I've never and will never donate one cent to Red Cross.

First hand -

My father died while I was in VietNam.
The sole involvement of the RC was to call my CO and “inform” him of the fact.

They made no effort to help in any other way.
Fortunately my CO was a LtCol with some “pull.”
He got me 21 days “basket leave” and scheduled on MAC flights both home and back.

The Army acted the part of the charity, while the charity did nothing.

The Red Cross has been lefty for a long time. I quit them about 25 years ago, and if I want to make a disaster donation, I give to Franklin Graham's Samaritan's Purse.

The Red Cross is one of many large charities that exists mainly to give its executives cushy jobs. A friend of mine made sandwiches to take to people putting out sand bags in anticipation of flooding only to be chased away by the Red Cross folks who were selling their sandwiches.

We were hit by a tornado back in the 70’s. The red cross showed up and “sold” sandwiches and sodas. Nothing free.

“I listened-and to this day the United Way gets nothing from me.”

same here. Not a dime for the United Way. Caused me some trouble when I was employed, but they didn’t get a nickel. The majority of the officers on my shift felt the same way. No money. No way.
