It was inevitable that President Trumps brief news conference on Tuesday concerning national infrastructure would, instead, be redirected to a discussion of the violent protest in Charlottesville this past weekend and his delayed criticism of the racist and pro-Nazi groups that were central to it.
It did not seem inevitable, though, that Trumps responses to questions about those protests would cement as correct the general interpretation of his first comments on the matter: Hes sympathetic to the goals of the men who marched Saturday night carrying Confederate and Nazi flags and even to the peaceful torchlight protest on Friday in which marchers chanted anti-Semitic and Nazi slogans.

The government is obliged to protect everyone’s free speech rights, and not to allow one group to interfere with another groups right to free speech.
If I defend the free speech of a despicable person, it does not mean I love the despicable person.
It means I love free speech.
The coverage of the press here and indeed in Canada has reached a peak. This is of the unfettered bias and virtual hatred of President Trump. Certainly they have the right to inveigh against anyone. That they use their rights under the First Amendment is true.
I did wince at the latest conference with the President. A woman reporter kept rasping questions at President Trump. The venom and waspish delivery of these questions, tells us something about her. Having said that, I remember past furores with the press. Using a bit of Shakespeare, these were:
"Full of sound and fury, signifying nothing!"
Could this have the usual shelf life? Could it all simply blow over by next Tuesday or so? The President could simply wait it out.
....That Trump criticized both groups means he supported one side...
When you are a mentally ill liberal, yes.
I am sick of the media. But I am also sick of Trump falling right into it.
Vox and the MSM are engaged in promoting leftist violence by saying it is understandable and anyone so repressed would have to act out.
The aim of the narrative is to provoke the “alt-right” to violence. They tried to do this in Chicago, I was there — thank God we didn’t give them the riot they wanted.
Having failed to get the riot in Chicago, now they are trying to manufacture a riot and blame it on all conservatives. Don’t fall for it.
The battle is spiritual. Pray, pray and pray.
Keep it up, Phil.
Keep it up.

Your point well taken by me. I recall Freepers very early on, stating that the more the President has to do with the press, the more he will suffer. Many years ago a statement was once made to this effect.
"Steer her straight and damn the torpedoes".
Could be the President's only recourse. I am getting lost for words, as I view virtual sedition within a great nation.
This may be the time to start shooting at each other.
I know that it's infuriating for Patriots such as us to hear the hateful lies and demonization of the President and his supporters, but we must keep in mind that these are the death throes of an impotent and ever-shrinking community of Swamp Things who refuse to accept the outcome of a perfectly legitimate Presidential election.
Never forget for one moment that—for all intents and purposes—their power has been broken. This was proven beyond the shadow of a doubt in November of 2016. The entire Establishment Uniparty Swamp was crushed—Democrats, GOPe, Media, Globalists, Leftists, Marxist Totalitarians—after pouring every fiber of their being—every ounce of propaganda—into destroying one man, along with the Movement whose mantle he assumed.
The Swamp thought that the American Presidency was their virtual birthright—a guaranteed entitlement—replete with an anointed and pre-coronated Queen. The "will of the People" was just a foregone conclusion— wielding their perceived power like a bludgeon, they believed that public opinion was theirs to mold like soft clay.
But they were mistaken! They severely overplayed their hand, and consequently their masks have been utterly torn away—permanently; they now stand naked and exposed as hateful monsters—a once formidable force which has degenerated into a oathetic laughingstock in the eyes the People. Their power—their integrity—their illusory journalistic "balance"—all are pretenses which will never be recovered.
Make no mistake: these monsters have already lost, and none of us should deign to grant them an iota of power which they no longer possess nor merit.
The only lingering question is whether the finality of the Enemy's defeat will be determined through peaceful means—electorally—or the alternative—a civil war which they have been needlessly and willfully fomenting for years now.
The leadership of these subversive and traitorous elements is totally corrupt, and manifests a collective sociopathy which is unprecedented in the history of this Republic. They will necessarily disintegrate from the sheer momentum of their own Wickedness; if not, they will ultimately be excised by We the People.
While the hate of this Enemy is extremely annoying—and profoundly destructive to American civility—nobody here should entertain the notion that these Swamp Things will do anything other than be destroyed—out of sheer necessity.
The Democrats and Media will either step back from the brink of their folly—civil war in America—or push the citizenry over the cliff to which they have marched it. And, believe me, if it comes to civil war, it's going to be very lopsided.
Come what may, the Enemy has already lost. I, for one, can't wait for the 2018 midterms to come, because there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth with the Democrats, as the height of their hubris and the depth of their denial is fully revealed...
Bezos’ Amazon’s Washington Post isn’t capable to rational thought.
Anyone buying or supporting Amazon in any way is clueless.
Just flat out lying without any shame.
These people are disgusting. They are trying to really wear us down and fatigue us.
Remember, if you are ever introduced to a Washington Post reporter, try to spit on THE GROUND. I know, it will go against all your instincts, but aim for THE GROUND.
If you miss... We all make mistakes.
Indeed - you say both sides behaved in ways which were totally unacceptable - that means you had sympathy for one side. Didn’t you know?
It is getting difficult not to feel fatigued and worn out by this day in and day out - it is what they are trying to do to us and make us want to tune it out and just drift along.
Exactly. I know it has distracted me from work. Frustrated to be sitting here wanting to scream at everyone on the news, online, wherever. Can’t do anything. Yes, ultimately lots of folks will just tune it all out. Key is to make sure that people don’t go away thinking Trump is racist, defending white supremacists, neo-Nazis, the KKK, or the Confederate flag. He’s not.
No, he does not. He is being truthful. The left is really the cause of this mess.
We have 310 million guns and 3 trillion round of ammunition.
They don’t know which bathroom to use.
Do they really want to do this?
WaPo can stick it up their BEZOs.
