Col. David Wil Riggins, after a highly decorated Army career that included multiple tours in Iraq and Afghanistan, was on the verge of promotion to brigadier general in July 2013 when he got a phone call at the Pentagon from the Armys Criminal Investigative Division to come in for a meeting. Once there, he learned that a blogger in Washington state had just accused him of raping her, when both were cadets at West Point in 1986. An investigation was underway.
Then, Riggins sued Shannon for defamation, claiming that every aspect of her rape claim on the West Point campus was provably false, and that she wrote two blog posts and a Facebook post to intentionally derail [his] promotion to brigadier general. During a six-day trial that ended Aug. 1, a jury in Fairfax County, Va., heard from both Riggins and Shannon at length. And after 2½ hours of deliberation, they sided emphatically with Riggins, awarding him $8.4 million in damages

” she became a Christian ..” I didn’t know making a false accusation of rape 27 years later was characteristic of Christian behavior!
the colonel lied when he said he could prove his position. He couldn’t, the CID said there was no evidence of either of the litigants’ positions. The jury based their decision on popularity like a beauty pageant panel.
It’s a nightmare for her and her family too.
...........unless it was true and not false......
I also have my own experience with the military "justice" system. A person accused is treated by the hierarchy as guilty until proven innocent.
The scandal surrounding a falsely accused officer would be more than sufficient to derail a promotion to general. There are simply too many candidates with flawless records to bother with those that have an uncertain background.
I doubt it.
While cadets, they had a brief consensual relationship that obviously didn't last..........It took 27 years but she finally got her poisonous revenge. Now she's going to pay for it......
What's that old saying about a "woman scorned"?
Oh yeah, that’s the old saw.........
no dude, they weren’t “provably false”, the CID said neither side could be proved but the judge wouldn’t let that fact in
All the rapee need do is to keep the DNA evidence, which would be a major piece of evidence. And scratch evidence. Women should be trained to get this data. At least scratch data can be used to rebut consent.
Does she carry a West Point mattress on her back?
Intercourse was not at issue, consent was
So you're saying the officer DID rape her, right?
oh right, you just reminded me, that’s the other one, “she’s gay, she’s lying, she’s a whore”............. thanks for refreshing my memory.
Im not sure that I could survive in todays workplace
I could. It would be my dumbass coworkers 5hat would have to worry.
I am all but convinced that I could not.
I count my blessings every day that I was prepared to retire. I enjoyed my profession but not my work. It had become far to tedious, almost all of my peers were gone, I got along with most of the youngsters and still had a lot to teach them that they wanted to learn but too much had changed. I felt like I did not belong anymore, not unwelcome but just did not fit in. Work had become a lot less fun.
She will appeal and there will be error on record. This ain’t over by a long shot.
27 years later accusation makes that unlikely!
Looks too much like someone wanting some easy money then justice. The jury seems to have thought so too.
Upper left quadrant, way above the crazy hot line.
Your guard is down and you need to be careful. They are like wild animals. Never turn your back or or get comfortable.
