THE KEY TO FAILURE
I recently read a devotion in God's Little Devotional Book for Women, which really touched my life. This book was copyrighted in 1996 by Honor Books, Inc. in Tulsa Oklahoma. The story on pages 98 and 99 tells of a painter who wanted to produce one work which would please everyone. So she painted a picture, and hung it in the public marketplace. She posted directions for people to mark the places they did not like with a small paint brush. She was surprised when she returned to find her picture was just a blob. So, the next day, she took another copy of the painting and asked people to mark the places they liked. By the afternoon, the picture was exactly the same blob. The artist concluded, "I now believe the best way to please one-half of the world is not to mind what the other half thinks or says." People always have an opinion about what we say or do, and the key to failure is to try to please everyone. The key to success, on the other hand, is to live according to God's opinions...those spelled out in the Bible. Then we will not fret over the opinions of others. "No one can serve two masters; for either he will hate the one and love the other, or he will hold to one and despise the other." (Matthew 6:24)

Reflecting Gods Love
August 6, 2017
When Moses came down from Mount Sinai with the two tablets of the covenant law in his hands, he was not aware that his face was radiant because he had spoken with the Lord.
Exodus 34:29
I had the privilege of serving as my moms caregiver during her treatments at a live-in cancer care center. Even on her hardest days, she read Scripture and prayed for others before getting out of bed.
She spent time with Jesus daily, expressing her faith through her dependence on God, her kind deeds, and her desire to encourage and pray for others. Never realizing how much her smiling face glowed with the Lords loving grace, she shared Gods love with the people around her until the day He called her home to heaven.
After Moses spent forty days and forty nights communing with God (Ex. 34:28), he descended Mount Sinai. He had no idea his intimate connection with the Lord actually changed his appearance (v. 29). But the Israelites could tell Moses had spoken with the Lord (vv. 3032). He continued meeting with God and influencing the lives of those around him (vv. 3335).
We might not be able to see how our experiences with God change us over time, and our transformation will definitely not be as physically apparent as Mosess beaming face. But as we spend time with God and surrender our lives to Him more and more each day, we can reflect His love. God can draw others closer to Him as the evidence of His presence shows in and through us.
Our intimate moments spent with God can change us and direct others to His love.
In the apostle Pauls second letter to the Corinthians, he compares two sources of afterglow. Moses met with God and reflected the fading glory of the law (3:711). Now, however, through faith in Christ we can meet with the same God and reflect His transforming Spirit. The difference is life-changing. As good as the law is, it condemns those who break it. As bad as we are, through the mercy and forgiveness of Christ we can have everlasting life.
The offer is to draw near to Jesus, who forgives our sin and transforms us by His Spirit as we draw close and spend time with Him. May others see the love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control of Jesuss Spirit glowing through us.Mart DeHaan

To thine own heart be true. When we try to please everyone, we end up failing to please ourselves, just as a "jack of all trades is a jack of none." You cannot please everyone, please the Lord and all else will follow.
Here is a similar example. I attended this church where every Sunday I would bring a case of fruit for the parish. One day I brought a beautiful case of tomatoes. While sitting in the pew, one of the pastors came and thanked me and while we struck up a conversation before the sermon, an individual sitting directly across the aisle from me--who was not in the conversation-- blurted out: "I hate tomatoes." I no longer go to that church.

ND after six days Jesus taketh Peter, James, and John his brother, and bring- eth them up into an high mountain apart,
And was transfigured before them: and his face did shine as the sun, and his raiment was white as the light. |
And, behold, there appeared unto them Moses and Elias talking with him.
Then answered Peter, and said unto Jesus, Lord, it is good for us to be here: if thou wilt, let us make here three tabernacles; one for thee, and one for Moses, and one for Elias.
While he yet spake, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold a voice out of the cloud, which said, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him.
And when the disciples heard it, they fell on their face, and were sore afraid.
And Jesus came and touched them, and said, Arise, and be not afraid.
And when they had lifted up their eyes, they saw no man, save Jesus only.
And as they came down from the mountain, Jesus charged them, saying, Tell the vision to no man, until the Son of man be risen again from the dead.
And his disciples asked him, saying, Why then say the scribes that Elias must first come?
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Elias truly shall first come, and restore all things.
But I say unto you, That Elias is come already, and they knew him not, but have done unto him whatsoever they listed. Likewise shall also the Son of man suffer of them.
Then the disciples understood that he spake unto them of John the Baptist.

The flooring is finished. We're putting stuff back together and refinishing the kitchen cabinets. I haven't had much time for the Garden lately - John-Man has been taking care of it for me.

Nice day today. It is raining. Just like the picture I can mark up what is good or what is bad but why not accept it the way it is just like the weather

"I VOW TO THEE, my country, all earthly things above, Entire and whole and perfect, the service of my love; The love that asks no question, the love that stands the test, That lays upon the altar the dearest and the best; The love that never falters, the love that pays the price, The love that makes undaunted the final sacrifice.
And there's another country, I've heard of long ago, Most dear to them that love her, most great to them that know; We may not count her armies, we may not see her King; Her fortress is a faithful heart, her pride is suffering; And soul by soul and silently her shining bounds increase, And her ways are ways of gentleness, and all her paths are peace."

DEAR LORD, who suffered torment, agony, and death upon the Cross to free our souls from the chains of iniquity, protect and defend our troops. Guide them in the performance of their duties. Strengthen them to endure hardship, danger and deprivation in Your service. Let their efforts free the people of Iraq and Afghanistan from the chains of terror and slavery, foster a lasting peace in the region, and bring all to a greater share in Your Mercy. Amen.
