Gov. Bruce Rauner today signed into law a bill declaring Aug. 4 Barack Obama Day, effective in 2018.
Senate Bill 55 passed through both chambers of the General Assembly without a single dissenting vote. The bill would only make Aug. 4 an honorary holiday and not a legal holiday, unlike an earlier proposal.
The first attempt to create Obama Day in the state failed in March by six votes in the House. That plan, which would have made the day a legal holiday, was estimated to cost Illinois taxpayers nearly $20 million in lost productivity and state employee personnel costs given that state employees would have had the day off. Under that bill, had Obama Day fallen on a Sunday, state workers wouldve been given the following Monday off, as well.
Aug. 4, 2018, will mark the first Barack Obama Day in Illinois.

April Fools Day
The people of IL would probably like to have Obama Day every day of the year!
Is this a day to celebrate dishonesty , criminal behavior and anti-Americanism ???
A day to Barf Olot.
Wait til the unions start questioning why they have to work on Obama day.
Barf-O-rama!
And he did so much for the state LOL
Yes, it’s the day the new Cadillac comes out!
Might as well call it Kenya Day.
“Why did the governor bother to do this?”
Because he’s a “closet Wigger!”
yep, you get a picture of an obamma phone, lied to about insurance, spied on while enjoying a barbeque and taxed for the sauce..and a benghazi pic of ambassador stevens
It’s take a dump day!!
Half-breed nagger day?
Okay, since the precedence has been set, when are the Illinois holidays going to be granted for Ronald Reagan, Ulysses Grant, and Abraham Lincoln, since all three — like Barack Obama — lived in Illinois at some point (in the case of Reagan, that was his birthplace).
...just wonderin’
It's an "honorary" holiday, so no one will notice it and it won't affect anything (schools and government offices will still be open, etc.) An earlier version passed last year would have made it an "official state holiday", and thankfully that version died.
Still, I still zero excuse for any Republican to vote for this or for the Governor to sign it.
If I were Governor, I would have vetoed it and noted that there are FOUR Presidents from Illinois and its wrong to honor only ONE of them and snub the earlier ones ("especially since Abraham Lincoln is considered our greatest President and he is from Illinois"). There is plenty of precedent for that, since the federal level now honors "Presidents Day" instead of "George Washington's Birthday". I would inform the legislature that if they want to amend the legislation to set aside a day to honor all four Presidents from Illinois (and that the bill would retroactively include any FUTURE President from Illinois), I would be happy to sign it. I would also note Indiana has a similar arrangement to bring attention to the fact they have more Vice Presidents than any other state, and a state museum honoring ALL of them.
Let them cry over that and call me a racist, I don't care. I doubt Illinois citizens would care, either.
And while I'm at it, I would issue an executive order changing the current "official state holiday" from "Casmir Pulaski Day" to "Polish American Heritage Day". Casmir Pulaksi has no ties to Illinois whatsoever and never even set foot in this state. While he was a great revolutionary war figure, he doesn't deserve a state holiday.
After the Dog died (probably from Beef Liver Poisoning), I was in a quandary. Then I noticed the Heating System Grate on the floor next to the TV.
A couple of years later my Parents had the entire HVAC System replaced. The HVAC guy found some Fossilized Beef Liver inside the Duct Work and I was busted when my Mother and Father confronted me with the Evidence.
I should have insisted that my Parents buy us another Dog as soon as the first one died. LOL
Oops, wrong Thread. Me bad, LOL
BTW - Obama SUCKS.
