Lost 33 Pounds and I am Happy!! Diet Stories?
08.02.07 | chickensoup

Posted on 08/02/2017 4:15:58 PM PDT by Chickensoup

Lost 33 pounds and had a little more to go. Have been working with a local health and wellness program and monitored dieting.

Very happy and dropped two clothing sizes. Going to try to drop another size or two. I have decided to be a little too little than a little too big.

Using low to moderate calorie high protein, moderate fate low carb diet.

Your diet tips always welcome.

I also buy the Atkins shakes and snacks (EXPENSIVE!) and use them as meal replacements. My wife uses them in the mornings in lieu of some microwave Bob Evans egg McMuffin or cereal now. Another zero-carb snack I have as a secret weapon is - drum roll, please - pork rinds, especially dill pickle pork rinds. (Hey, c’mon. I live in Alabama.) I don’t worry about the fat content as much as the carb content. As long as it’s working. My HDL, LDL, and triglycerides are all shot to hell, anyway, but the weight loss and carb control is paramount to getting my A1C levels back down to a manageable level. Then there’s the issue of a blood disorder and vascular issues that peripherally tie into the sugar management, which also ties in in a somewhat oblique way to internal organ problems they’re testing for. When I said I was a medical jigsaw puzzle, I meant I was the thousand piece, age-13-and-up mega box. The one weakness I have is.............peanut butter. Right out of the jar. With a good slug of cold milk.

I lost 135 pounds without dieting and no exercising. I was in a coma for a month - i don’t recommend the ‘coma diet’. However, by the grace of God, I am back to my normal weight and healthier than ever. As Maxwell Smart said “missed the death train by that much.” My advice is to always consult your Doctor, before, during and after any diet.

I dread this aspect of not smoking.

Have been winning the fit to stay off the smokes but I have gained 10 pounds. It’s so damned frustrating.

D’oh! I didn’t catch that while I was typing. SLACKS, not SNACKS. LOL Makes more sense now. I was thinking “Why would you buy the very thing that made you gain weight in the first place?” Well, my weight gain was such that I have two sizes of old shirts and jeans I can back up into as I lose it. That’s another incentive - I’ve gotten this clothing out of the closet, tried them on, and realize that I can’t seven begin to button and zip them up, and I think to myself, “Did I actually fit into these things at one time?” So, there you go. A personal challenge to myself to get back into them and wear them in public again.

“as long as you are hungry 100% of the time...”

May work for some, but not for me. Being hungry and grazing made me cranky and stalled weight loss.
Snacking kept my insulin high. Insulin blocks fat burning.

I would rather eat normal real meals most of the time and fast occasionally. No snacking was a key for me to allow time for insulin to return to baseline.

There are many useful strategies on YouTube — see Dr. Jason Fung, Butter Bob Briggs, or the OMAD One Meal A Day guy.

Diet trick no one believes- price your calories!
It gives a second negative aspect to excess calories.
They make you fat AND they waste your money!
It's a mind trick that works.

BTW a healthy diet costs 25 to 40 (and up) cents per hundred calories depending on one's taste and inclination.

Fast for 18 hrs a day, and never drink your food (unless it’s alcohol and then only spirits). Single ingredient foods no artificial sweeteners period. Strength training to increase lean body mass (so you can eat more food). Lost 80 pounds, and now due to increased lean body mass, I loose weight if I don’t eat enough in the 6 hour window.

Twelve years ago I lost 110 pounds.

Want to be thin?

Get in the pool every single day. Swim!

Eat whatever you like, it doesn’t matter. Swim!

Sixteen years ago I went low carb (insulin sparing). Now, for a little over a year I have moved to a ketonic diet. I cyclically fast and have incorporated 260 calories a day of MCTs (caprylic and capric acid) and ketones. Also added inulin to the diet to increase short chain fatty acids.

MCTs are unique. The metabolism is "only" a three stage process (passage to portal vein to liver) for production of ketones. Ketones are the preferred fuel for brain, cardiac and general muscle. MCTs are also insulin neutral and do not effect any other metabolic processes during fasting as long chain fatty acids do.

I'm still struggling with 6 to 7 lbs of excess adipose, however it is not noticeable to anyone but myself.

Several brands of Ketone salts are all over the interwebs.

Check Amazon for possibilities. I have tried different brands and flavors, my personal favorites are KetoCaNa Lemon, InstaKetones orange and Kegenixs Prime pomegranate.

You can also use MCT oil which breaks down to ketones.

They can be pretty expensive but I found that I only need smaller amounts than recommended.
Just a spoonful in water or tea takes the edge off of hunger, gives me some energy and reduces brain fog.

Yep. I’ll go a couple of weeks with minimal loss but keep plowing through. I also don’t get crazy. I’m going to eat what I want to eat and drink the occasional beer or two.

My goal, however, is long term and if I’m just losing a pound or two a month and in good physical condition then it’s ok with me.

(I’ve still got a ways to go to be where I want to be)

You can also use MCT oil which breaks down to ketones.

MCT oil may require a person to titrate up or suffer GI issues. It can clean you out.

Quest (Amazon) has MCT powder (60%caprilic,40%capric) and doesn't seem to induce that type of problem. Much easier to use and is fantastic as a coffee creamer.

I use both powder and oil.

Full fat organic GREEK yogurt is good because of the additional protein too. I mix it with a decent veg juice (not v8) for an easy to drink protein boost. No fruit or sugar.
