The Trump administration is considering the ramifications of paring back the U.S. presence in Afghanistan as part of its ongoing strategy review in America’s longest war, The Wall Street Journal reports.

Trump’s national security cabinet is bitterly divided on the future U.S. role in Afghanistan. Senior national security officials like Secretary of Defense James Mattis and National Security Advisor H.R. McMaster are reportedly pushing Trump to allow a surge of approximately 4,000 troops into Afghanistan, while White House Chief Strategist Steve Bannon has lobbied against the effort.

“It doesn’t work unless we are there for a long time, and if we don’t have the appetite to be there a long time, we should just leave. It’s an unanswered question,” a senior administration official told WSJ of any plan to increase U.S. troops.

:: It doesn’t work unless we are there for a long time ::

Wrong. It won’t work until we seriously alter the Obama ROE!

Dear God Please.

Those people are not worth a single penny.

Much less the priceless life of an American Solider.

Do it! The mission there is over.

We have no business telling others how to live or bringing them up 8 centuries in a few years (impossible anyway)

Get the Hell out of there.

Only deal with that region from 40,000 feet and deliver only heat and destruction to the bad guys.

Leverage the MILITARY technology on them.

But...but...the Guardian keeps reporting that Trump wants to fight there, throughout the mideast, North Korea and Mexico!

Afghanistan might as well be called “the place empires go to die “.

Let the 7th century retards wallow in their own depravity.

Sure, no problem, Steverino. Let’s give the Taliban and Al-Qaeda free reign to use the place for building up their means of wreaking global terror.

When Nixon finally pulled our troops out of Viet Nam, there were some problems, an influx of many good S. Viets and some not so good into our country.

Viet Nam is probably a better trading partner and semi friend now, than the ChiComs.

The neo cons don’t want us to pull out of that hell hole.
$crew them and pull out.

Just don’t bring thousands of Afghans into our country. They would make the Somalis look like model citizens.

Outside of monitoring Iran’s nuclear program, Afghanistan has zero value to the US.

Why not? The US gives the Saudis free reign to finance global terror. Until the Saudis royals heads are on a spike, no one is serious about stopping islamic terrorism.

It seems that lately most U.S. casualties are caused by the Afghan troops they are supposed to be assisting. I don’t see how a surge is going to change that.

I don’t quite understand what we are doing there.

I understand we invaded after Sept. 11th because they were giving safe haven to Bin Laden.

we overthrew the Taliban government in short order. But why are the Taliban still around??

Can you imagine, if after World War II, there were still Nazis trying to get back into power??

Ditto, if in Japan, if they had people trying to get back in power.

Why is it, that in Afghanistan, we still see the Taliban trying to get back in, and that they still control parts of the country, and still have bases in places such as Pakistan??

If the goal was to wipe out the Taliban, we failed.

On the other hand, was the goal simply to overthrow the Taliban to get even for Sept 11th? In such case, we achieved that goal, and can leave Afghanistan to whatever fare awaits it, right???

What am I missing??How did a military action to retaliate for Sept 11th become America’s longest war in history? And what is the end game?

This is a 3rd world country. These people are just trying to survive. There is no hunger for freedom. Time to get out.
