Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnells bid to pass a stripped down repeal of Obamacare on a party-line vote failed dramatically in the early hours of Friday when Sen. John McCain, R-Ariz., joined two other Republican holdouts and all the Democrats to vote against the measure.

"That vote took a long time to come. For almost an hour, the Senate clerks refrained from gaveling the previous vote to a close as Republicans clustered around Mr. McCain. First, Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R., Alaska) squeezed him on the shoulder. Then, Sen. Susan Collins (R., Maine) joined them, laughing.....
From a distance, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.) gazed at Mr. McCain. Sen. Jeff Flake (R., Ariz.) was dispatched to intervene, and sat down next to Mr. McCain. Mr. McCain ignored the polite Mr. Flake. Mr. Flake leaned in and over, but he couldnt break into the conversation of the trio who would bring down the health bill. At one point, Mr. McCain was positioned so that Mr. Flake was practically facing Mr. McCains back.
Finally.....Vice President Mike Pence ambled over. Relaxed and easy, he put his hand on Mr. McCains desk. For 20 minutes they talked, Mr. McCain gesturing repeatedly and emphatically. Mr. Pence listened.
Mr. McConnell, joined by Sen. John Cornyn (R., Texas), the Senates No. 2 Republican, stole glances at Mr. McCain. Sen. Lindsey Graham (R., S.C.) shuttled between the two groups."
“The people get the government they deserve.”
100% agree
But an honest press is needed too
I dont trust any Senators. They may have known that these three would vote against the bill, giving the rest of them cover so they could say to their constituents that they tried, but it just didnt pass.
We should stop paying them unless they actually accomplish something.
Then we should get the Justice Department after them - once we get an honest Justice Department, that is - to figure out how so many of them got to be millionaires on their salaries.
THEN they should be forced to work the same amount of days as everyone else in America AND be subject to every single law / regulation they pass (including health care).
An don’t forget — we middle class, voting Americans are PAYING for McCain’s healthcare.
Look people if you aren’t woke YET you better be!!
Gee, reminds me of Hillary Clinton. She had a “blood clot” too.
They oughta get together.
With their one issue agenda...PP.
Unless there is a movement to get enough patriot voters in the Repub primaries to come out and overturn such RINO’s as these 3 clowns then we keep getting stuck with these old fools for decades. McLame should have been thrown out on his traitorous keister years ago. We vote for these hineys and they fail us over and over again. It’s madness I tells yas.
So I wonder where are the people on FR that were all gushy about this fop back when they thought he was about to croak?
There's just not really any other explanation for how destructive he is, and how obstinate he is when he is outright destructive -- how nonchalant he is in the face or utter moronacy. I'm not defending him by saying many of his most dramatic actions are at gunpoint - I think he's a poisonous person totally separate from being someone's puppet. But I do think somebody owns him. There is an incongruence that isn't fully explained by shear lack of principle.
We all think he's sold out his principles, but usually that's just an expression. I think he literally has. Still, I'd accept the notion that he really is just a not-good-person. I think both may be true.
At least half the freepers here will put the blame on all republicans, not just the 3 traitors. That, is the really sad thing.
Yep. That Reach Across the Aisle fool
Utter contempt for him
Problem with that cartoon is the wheelbarrow points the wrong direction. The insurance companies are corrupted by the politicians dollars, not the other way around. The politicians, except for a handful of conservatives, all badmouth the insurance companies. But insurance companies, unregulated, are the only hope for a sane market health care system.
The blame rests squarely on TV-addled Americans, all states, all parties.
Can President Trump write an executive order for term limits?
The whole lot needs to go.

‘They’ pull crap like this because they can.
Were this the LIBs/DEMs, the defectors or anyone going against the policy (UNLESS the vote doesn’t count and going against the grain(constituents) would cost them a seat) the (so called) Leadership would strip them of ANY responsible positions and make the 3 of them run the coat room and coffee mess (as long as NO cash payouts were involved).
If not mistaken when this originally passed there were NO D dissidents and very little ‘public whining’ from their side.
I go back to my original ‘idea’....
Strip the exemptions and MAKE every living breathing soul come under the BOScare program.
Then you will get some ‘results’.
Just look at the wimpy do-nothing, fiddle around crap that has taken place in the past six months.
The Republican leadership has NO interest in really changing things.
Pigs at the trough for the Uniparty.
“..falls apart on Senate floor after McCain defects”
Not really a surprise, we all know he is defective.
Up and about a week or two after surgery like that? Where is the scar? Just asking.
Snakes of the world just put you on their bite on sight list for the massive insult that you just gave them.
