Historian: Louisiana Dems 'have forgotten their own history'

Democrats in Louisiana have caved to the political correctness of the modern age, just like Democrats in several other states have already done, suggests a prominent historian.

The Louisiana Democratic Party has announced its annual Jefferson-Jackson dinner will no longer bear the names of Thomas Jefferson and Andrew Jackson; this year’s event, set to be held in New Orleans on Aug. 26, will instead be called the True Blue Gala.

The Louisiana Democratic Party and its chairwoman, state Sen. Karen Carter Peterson, announced the dinner would be renamed “to reflect the progress of the party and the changing times.”

Jefferson, ironically, was the president who made the Louisiana Purchase in 1803, bringing the territory that included the present-day state of Louisiana into the United States in the first place.

David Barton, founder and president of WallBuilders and author of “The Jefferson Lies: Exposing the Myths You’ve Always Believed About Thomas Jefferson,” says Louisiana Democrats are making the wrong move for the wrong reasons.

“They purportedly separated themselves from Thomas Jefferson because he owned slaves,” Barton told WND. “However, they ignored the fact that African-American civil rights leaders in the 18th, 19th and 20th centuries openly praised Jefferson for his repeated efforts to abolish slavery in the United States, and even around the world. They understood a reality that today’s shallow academics and uninformed activists ignore: Virginia state law did not allow Jefferson to free his slaves, despite his desire to do so. So he worked to free all slaves throughout all of the United States. Those efforts are worthy of commendation – something Louisiana Democrats refuse to do.

SMH! Seriously? The depth of stupidity on display is truly amazing. From historically factual to freaking gaia worship fantasy. Not to mention the completely ignoring Jefferson's actions. Maybe they also need to change the name of Jefferson Parish. Fidiots!

P.S. Lee Circle will ALWAYS be Lee Circle with our without the statue.

Historian: Louisiana Dems 'have forgotten their own history'

Like the Taliban, the dems are rushing to tear down all the historical monuments. They now want to remove Old Hickory's statue from Jackson Square. Most of these morons have no idea that he saved New Orleans in the War of 1812.

Perhaps the Democrats of Louisiana should center their adulation and praise on the Long family of Winnfield, Louisiana, especially on Hue and Earl. Before the Landrieu family, these were the populist leaders of the “Louisiana Way”, the coalition of the Cajuns and the delta farmers along the Mississippi.

But Louisiana has come a long way since the relative eclipse of these two families, and perhaps that is why the mention of either is somewhat muted among the Democrats still there.

Most people try not to repeat mistakes (that they remember).

Ds need to erase history from memory before the people allow them to repeat it. They aren’t just removing memory of Jefferson and slavery but of Jefferson’s statements on freedom and tyranny.

They don’t want people to understand why the Declaration of Independence and The Constitution were written or the importance of protecting citizens from government. Erase Jefferson and other founding fathers from history and you erase the reasons our country exists from citizens’ memories.

Ok, even if you cede the point on Jefferson. What did Jackson do wrong?

He defended something in the south and apparently that, in itself, is cause to have your statue removed. Even it it’s not relevant to the complaint. That’s just how “they” are.

Well, I am sure they will replace it with an even bigger hero like Jane Fonda or that gentle giant thug from Missouri.

Instead of re-naming historical sites & removing statues, Dems should simply DISBAND. DEMOCRATS were the original racists & slave-owners, & it would be logical to do based on their own actions. Then Dems can join the party they truly affiliate with by ideology: The Communist Party of the USA.

I wonder what would happen in US elections if the two major parties were Republican & Communist?
