A Wisconsin company is to become the first in the US to microchip employees.
Three Square Market is offering to implant the tiny radio-frequency identification (RFID) chip into workers' hands for free - and says everyone will soon be doing it.
The rice grain-sized $300 (£230) chip will allow them to open doors, log in to computers and even purchase food.
And so far, 50 employees have signed up for the chance to become half-human, half-walking credit card.
But far from being some sort of dystopian nightmare, Three Square Market's Patrick McMullan believes everyone will soon be wanting their own microchip.
"The international market place is wide open and we believe that the future trajectory of total market share is going to be driven by whoever captures this arena first," Mr McMullan said.

What could possibly go wrong?
I have enough problems with splinters. No thanks.
So what happens if the employee is terminated? Remove his chip or the whole hand?
What if this becomes de rigueur and you end up with half a dozen different chips for different companies or banks in your hand?
What’s wrong with keeping it in a card?
Uh. NO.
I guess it will make it that much easier for someone to clone your credit card.
What will you do; walk around with your hand in a foil bag?
No way, no how.
they say they will not do GPS tracking of people. They say it’s voluntary. But what happens, if they do decide to do GPS tracking, and make it mandatory to have a chip as a condition of employment????
Technology is taking us to some places we would rather not go, in my opinion.
We’ve already lost a lot of financial privacy, due to how many people use debit and credit cards, and pay bills online. People going shopping and using actual cash, currency and coin, has been declining.
Electronic medical records are an area which has caused loss of privacy of medical information.
I know that there are laws and regulations in place to ensure that the wrong people don’t get access to your information, and/or to prevent fishing expeditions through your electronic files. But as technology advances, it will be harder and harder to keep private information truly private.
They just turn off their access to stuff.
I wonder if this would work with GPS? Might be a way to locate lost or missing children. Also a way to track criminals.
I can’t think of them, but I know have seen a movie/read a story where the bad guy commits espionage by using the severed hand containing the electronic pass.
My answer would be “I quit”
Riiiiiiiiiiiight.
Hey, tech companies are drooling at the prospect of chips for everyone for everything. The money is huge (hugh)!
And then the tin foil crowd says universal chip implants are necessary for the goal of total control of the human species by the Powers That Be.
Right now I put a piece of opaque tape over the camera on my work laptop. In the future, I will have to amputate my hand...
The Belko Experiment comes to mind.
Just wait til someone ‘hacks’ these things and suddenly your bank account is gone......................
“But far from being some sort of dystopian nightmare, Three Square Market’s Patrick McMullan believes everyone will soon be wanting their own microchip.”
So this guy thinks we all are clamoring to become just like our dogs and cats?
What will come next? Criminals with RFID detecting equipment “scanning us and cloning our chips?” So then the circle will be complete and you will have an evil twin without knowing it! This will be the “crowning achievement” in identity theft.
F that!
