President Trump has floated the possibility of replacing Attorney General Jeff Sessions with his steadfast ally Rudy Giuliani to serve in the top Justice Department post, Axios reported Monday.
Trump broached the idea in internal discussions about bringing in and surrounding himself with staunch supporters, sources within the West Wing told the news outlet.
Before The New York Times interview last week, Trump had already expressed anger and frustration at Sessions for recusing himself from the Russia investigation, Axios reports.
Trump, during the interview, opined that Sessions' decision to recuse himself was "unfair" to him and he would've likely picked another person to lead the Justice Department if he had known this is the move Sessions would make.
In a tweet on Monday, Trump went after Sessions, calling him beleaguered and questioned why the attorney general and federal investigators are not looking into Hillary Clinton for her crimes and ties to Russia.

Sessions was so concerned with ethics that he recused without the legal necessity to do so. It would seem vastly less ethical to not inform Trump of his intentions.
I appreciate what Sessions did to help Trump get elected, but we need an AG with urgency and fearlessness.
Word on the street was Giuliani had health issues. That is why he was not picked initially. And frankly he was not looking too good to me.
He should do that. Surrounding yourself with enemies - or at any rate, people who want to impress your enemies - is not a good idea.
Doubtful.
1) No way they would get him through confirmation - at least not without him promising to recuse himself.
2) Sessions was a loyal supporter who risked his political capital to endorse Trump early and gave up his Senate seat. I would hate to see him out in the cold. Sessions is also more conservative than Rudy, although Rudy would have been my ideal pick for the job.
3) If Trump wants Sessions to investigate something, I believe (correct me if I’m wrong) all he has to do is order it. Trump needs to order it.
“No. Giuliani is an amnesty supporter”.
He’s also a bad assed prosecutor. He knows how to get criminals.
Well stated. This is a MAJOR fundamental weakness of the Repub Washington mob. It is why Rudy should have been named a long time ago...Trump needs an agressive fighter and they are a near extinct species in the Repubs.
With the current Senate, could Trump get any conservative nominee for AG approved? I doubt it and he would have to plan on a recess appointment going in and the nominee would have to understand that.
Cleanup in aisle number one underneath Hillary.
Exactly. I don’t get it. All he has to do is order it, right?
The Duke of Wellington on Napoleon:
“What the Master intends is as different from black bishop to white knight.”
Immigration enforcement falls under the purview of DHS. General Kelly is in charge, not the AG.
You have the absolute wrong idea about how an AG is supposed to function.
Axios reports that Trump regularly considers personnel switch-ups, but doesn't always act. Pondering about bringing in Giuliani may fall under this umbrella.
“I just wet myself a little bit...”
You weren’t the only one!
People, this is another “inside sources” thing.
Tread lightly.
That was my reaction exactly: Yes!
I was hoping for either Giuliani or Cruz for AG.
Yes, yes,yes!
.
What Trump is “tweeting” is as always a smokescreen for what is really happening.
Ninety-nine times out of 100, if he’s tweeting about a “beleaguered” Jeff Sessions, reality is exactly the opposite.
Absolutely.
I am one of the few that still like Sessions. But still ..the lack of clinton investigation bothers me
Sessions is not a wartime consigliere.
I agree. The Clinton Crimes have been well documented by many. Why keep asking "why no investigation"? Order the DOJ to get on the case & let's get rolling.
