His North Vietnamese captors told him hed never go home.
They beat and tortured him to no end, but the Navy flyers patriotism manifested itself in historic defiance, refusing to do the easy thing for his own reward.
He would not accept freedom before other prisoners whod been there longer than he: It wasnt the right thing to do, he thought.
Instead, he gave the enemy hell.
Now he has brain cancer.
And hes 80 years old.
Its the appropriate time to loudly honor this war hero for his toughness and resolve in combat and captivity, but subsequently during his political career.
He has shown an integrity and individualism that goes unduplicated in modern politics.

What’s your point?
Good point, and I think you’re right. (I’m not a doctor, I just play one on the Internet :-) )
Thanks.
Johnny was happy to help Barry the Muslim destroy America but raced to the FBI with a phony Trump dossier and lead a deep state coup. A real piece of work .
You couldn’t be anymore right on the money. The GOP saw an up and coming star and they sought to bury her. Anyone with half a brain and one eye could see McCain threw that race.
I wish McCain the best in his struggle with cancer. I still however wish he would have left politics many many years ago. These addicts to power have nearly destroyed this once great Republic. I will not pretend otherwise just because someone is facing the same problems we mere subjects face with much less fan fair and much lesser access to care.
We should be praying for his salvation. Death will have it’s day and soon.
I respectfully disagree that McCain has any redeeming value at all.
He is a traitor. Both then and now.
Criminals like him, who have done enormous harm to my people, are worthy of the rope.
I will spit on his grave.
PS: He spit on POWs who he knew were still alive and being held in SE Asia.
Melanoma is known to metastasize.
The left is worried. With McAmnesty gone they lose a certain vote. He collaborated in Hanoi Hilton and made daily speeches filled with commie propaganda; he was shot down because he was flying too low in an area he was not supposed to be flying in. He lost two planes in training and got through even thou there is a one and done rule. Being the son and grandson of an admiral will do that. His CO in prison camp wanted him tried for treason. He has been Chuckie Schumer’s butt boy for years. Need more? You won’t have to look too hard Go to gotnews.com
Having brain cancer doesn’t make all of this go away.
That said, I harbor the utmost contempt for John McCain. He betrayed his shipmates, his fellow POWs, his constituents, and his country. He has consorted with men who seek our deaths and the ruin of this nation. He has advocated for the dissolution of our borders and thus, our security, all with the support of one of the most evil men on the planet, George Soros.
It is clear through John McCain's actions and statements that he regards patriotic Americans with the utmost contempt.
Well, Mr. McCain, the feeling is mutual.
Good luck, Songbird.
We all die. Cancer sucks. He should have to use the VA hospital . Ask them about dealing with cancer.
What would a death panel say about treating him at this age
Cancer is a horrible disease. I am sorry for anyone suffering from it.
Um.... yeah.
Cancer is going to make him squeal like a ‘songbird’
I cannot speak for "all of you people," but only for myself. I have an incurable case of Christianity, which has resulted in a disposition to love my neighbor as myself.
Note that I specified that I wish for Sen. McCain's remaining years to be spent "quietly with his family," rather than in the United States Senate. That is what I would desire for myself, if I were very ill (or even in excellent health).
You have a nice day.
Quite frankly, his political career has been a disaster. From the Keating Five to his signature legislative achievement Campaign Finance Reform - which did nothing but outlaw free speech and protect incumbents - its been a mess. And never missing the opportunity to go against his other GOP members to preserve that all-important maverick moniker.
There some kind if karmic twist with mccain getting diagnosed with same kind of cancer has kennedy..at same age...and both during health care debate
I don’t blame McCain for giving out information after being tortured.
You hold out as long as you can- that’s all that can be expected of anyone.
Then you get back and make sure everyone knows what information you were forced to give out- so that it is known to be compromised. This helps.
But to pretend you didn’t and act heroic is wrong. There are numerous stories that McCain was kept in good conditions in POW camp because his father was an admiral. I don’t know if they are true or not.
We do know Lurch was a coward and “unfit for command” but then again he was a democrat- that’s them all over.
Boxer?
Been thru things most of us will never know. Sending prayers his way.
I wish him all the best in fighting this cancer.
I disagree with applauding his “maverick” status as a Senator.
He’s 80 years old with a malignant brain tumor, something for which the treatment can be as debilitating as the tumor itself. It doesn’t look good. Senator McCain has some serious quality-of-life issues to resolve in the next few days. My mother passed of a brain tumor- she chose to forego chemo and radiation therapy. She was fine right up to the end. This was twenty years ago so I assume treatment therapies have advanced also.
And you can bet his treatment will not be under any obamacare parameters!
