What are we in Afghanistan for, if not to stand for our own values and the principles of human rights? Instead, U.S. officials are aiding and abetting the destruction of these boys’ lives — and all too often sacrificing the lives of our own troops. This is beyond shameful.

During the first Gulf War there were LHA’s offshore Basra. They had major medical facilities, several doctors and a bunch of Corpsman.
The Marines rescued a couple of hundred boys from the Iraqi troops and brought them to the two LHAs offshore.

Hubris and pride seem to be an issue among others such as Chicken Hawk mania.
Not to mention most of the worlds poppy supply for heroin is grown in Afghanistan, protected by the US military.

Under sharia, a boy does not count as male until he has grown pubic hair. Before that, it is permissible for men to have sex with them (no minimum age at all). This exception was established by Muhammad himself (as an incentive for certain individuals to join his raiding parties), so it is difficult to avoid in almost any interpretation of sharia.
Young boys for sex slaves has been a significant part of the muslim slave trade ever since Muhammad, and muslims by far have dominated the worldwide slave trade ever since. The majority of slaves that went to European colonies in the New World were purchased at muslim-owned slave markets in West African ports.
Defining a homo as a man who loves men, it is. If it is just loveless release, a bit of fun, no problem. Satan's "religion" does not take kindly to love.

People are still people, so relationships vary quite a bit, on a case by case basis.
In about half of Afghan marriages, they are first cousins. Often they have known each other well through their whole childhood. I know some where the wife can bat her eyelashes and get pretty much whatever she wants from her smitten husband. In many cases though, there are poorly adjusted men (orphans, child rape survivors, traumatized war survivors, bisexuals who prefer men, etc.) who are emotionally dysfunctional.
People often forget the magnitude and extent of the disasters that the Afghans have been through - anyone of which you would expect to produce psychological damage. They fought the Third World War against the Soviet Union that we prepared for. They suffered through a Khmer Rouge like (Khalq) dictatorship before that. They had years of Mad Max chaos after the Soviets, with gangs and militias ruling the roads, and fighting street to street in the capital city for years, with tanks and cannons. And then they had the Taliban take over with Pakistani support. Child Soldiers, mass executions, horrific torture, famine, mass migration, ethnic cleansing, family/tribal/societal collapse.
Not if you are dominant, have a wife at home, and don’t get caught in public doing it. I would guess that the dominant guy exposes his own partner for many of the executions in the Middle East.

Not sure that the demented moonscape that is Afghanistan can ever be brought into the civilized world.
I understand Reagan’s motivation... a tool to be used to win the Cold War... which he won. (I have no idea as to the muddled thoughts that may have motivated muddled Carter.)
But just from the point of view of the Afghan people, especially Afghan women living in the cities, they were MUCH better off with an iron-heeled Soviet Socialist regime than with the towel-head, tar-brained islamic savages they normally have running things in that sad, sad country.
As for the wars they've been through.....lets not forget that they have constantly shown to have their own 'tribal' wars which have kept them in a state of conflict.....they have been a conflict nation for decades from within and from without.....none of which 'excuses' their mindset and approach to their women....they have known better when you look at the nation in the 50's 60's and 70's.
