Mitch McConnell refuses to pull the plug on stalled Obamacare repeal plan
CNN ^ | July 18, 2017 | MJ Lee and Lauren Fox

It is "pretty clear there are not 50 Republicans at the moment for a replacement," McConnell said at a news conference following an all-GOP Senate lunch. But he still insisted that there would be a repeal-only vote "in the very near future." While the Kentucky Republican did not specify when that vote would be, Senate GOP whip John Cornyn told reporters afterward that the it would likely happen some time this week.

Hope it works and Republicans will vote for it.

Trump ought to call the Senators who say they will vote against repeal and inform them that he is going to release a list of incumbent Republicans he thinks should be primaried.

He should conclude by saying how much he really, really likes them, he really does, and that it would be tragic if they found themselves on that list.

Fist in a velvet glove.

Pass or fail, they need to get the vote for repeal on record. That goes for both House and Senate.

I don’t think McConnel wants it repealed meaningfully. If he did, he would hold the vote and let each senator be on record.

Instead, we get vagueness and half truths. Come election time each senator can claim they were for repeal.

Yes, now the MSM is trying to say that Trump is responsible for it!

The GOP was given power to get rid of Obamacare-period.

McConnell is desperate to find someone else to carry the blame for his failure to get anything done. That’s all this is - a play to get us looking elsewhere and not at him.

Oh for God’s sake. It’s Not About The Senators. It’s about who elected them.

You want to persuade Senators, you start with their voters. Collins is in office because Maine wants her there, and they want her there because her positions match theirs.

You want to primary her? You lose her seat. You don’t get a vote for a GOP Majority Leader from her replacement. Her replacement will vote for Schumer.

I’m thinking this is perhaps a good thing. Having a vote that fails would perhaps be better with replace; but will do with repeal. EIther way, it enforces publicly the notion that the ‘Rats own the ACA demise.

Hope it works and Republicans will vote for it.

There are four votes against it now. That number will only grow.

Your post 2 is an excellent suggestion. Hope one of Trump’s people is reading it and will pass it on to him.

I don’t get Mitch McConnell.

He did very well with prevention of voting on Merrick Garland to the Supreme Court, and did well to get us through the nuclear option, so that we would see Justice Gorsuch confirmed to the court.

So he can be a tough effective leader sometimes. On the Obamacare repeal, he’s not able to keep his troops in line.

I hope he can at least get a vote on this. The Republicans have been absolutely worthless in supporting President Trump so far.

Mitch McConnell is overdue for being sent out to pasture. If he took an “I Love America” test, he would probably fail.

Congress passes the laws, it’s the President’s job to see that they are enforced.
All he has to do is issue an EO, ordering the IRS to stop the “taxes” (read: fines) for not buying Obamacare, and make it RETROACTIVE back to the beginning.
This will immediately crash what’s left of obamacare, and sent the left, and the media, into a tailspin.

Give insurance BACK to the private sector, and get on with the business of running the government.

You seem to be making the mistake of assuming that McConnell is a national leader with some kind of broad authority over all of the GOP senators. It doesn't really work that way. Senators answer to their own constituents, first and foremost.

It's much easier to hold up a Supreme Court nomination because senators think of those things in very ideological terms and can't really know the short-term impacts of a new Supreme Court justice. With health care, however, the impact on a senator's home state could be immediate -- and devastating (if not done right).

Why doesn’t Susan Collins just switch over to the Dems and be done with it?

The President should remind the Senator from W. Va. that he, alone, ended the war on coal and saved W. Va. He should threaten to hold a rally in Charleston, and remind the good people of that state of his work, should she not vote for the repeal.

He should tell Murkowski he’ll support Joe Miller, next time around and have the FEC watching her for any shennaigans.

Maybe he can buy off Collins with a junket, or something.

.
