Department of Veterans Affairs officials have fired more than 500 misbehaving employees since January, according to data posted online Friday.
VA Secretary David Shulkin touted his agency's decision to publish its efforts to hold VA employees accountable, unveiling new requirements for updating the public on personnel actions.
"Veterans and taxpayers have a right to know what we're doing to hold our employees accountable and make our personnel actions transparent," Shulkin said in a statement. "Posting this information online for all to see, and updating it weekly, will do just that."

A nice start...
Have they fired all the VA employees who’s sole job is to work for the union?
>>Have they fired all the VA employees whos sole job is to work for the union?<<
Would that leave any employees at all?
Unfortunately the “good employees” at the various VA’s around the nation are being judged unfairly by the acts of others. (Bad apples can spoil the entire barrel). I have been using the VA in Tomah, WI for many, many years and have found only 1 person who needed a “tune up” of the services they provided. Unfortunately, all too often the good employees are judged unfairly by the acts of others.
The document provided by the VA says “removal” next to many job titles. Whether that’s the same as “fired,” I don’t know. Could it mean the person was “removed” from job A but will turn up again in job B? Could it mean “nudged into retirement”? Were these career employees with full union representation, contract employees, career-conditional employees (in their first year or so of employment)?
One would like dishonest or incompetent employees to be *fired*, but knowing how extraordinarily difficult this is, for government, more detail would be helpful.
wasn’t one of them rehired after he was fired? All departments/agencies need access to “do not hire” list
Good start, now Tillerson needs to FIRE the Obama holdovers!! And Sessons needs to FIRE Obama holdovers also!! GET BUSY!!
Let’s make it 501 by kicking self proclaimed sodomite and political hace michael michuad out of Togus.
In a 2015 Senate Judiciary Committee hearing, one senator noted that The Federal Register indicates there are over 430 departments, agencies, and sub-agencies in the federal government
Just replicate the "VA Accountability and whistle blower act" across all 430 Federal agencies.
And introduce ISO9000 style assessments :
1. say what you do
2. do what you say
3. document and prove it.
4. Terminate all those unable to prove step 3.
He went beyond the EO, congress passed a law giving the VA the authority to fire employees.
I would only hire Veteran's
Tillerson’s been quietly draining the swamp that is the State Dept. I hear the EPA is being swept as well. Not getting much coverage because Trump’s tweets keep the DBM fully occupied.
That only leaves about 50,000 more to go...
Ah, there is the rub. It has been my experience in the govt, that the people that document the most are the ones that do the least. Why? Because they spend all of their time tying all of the strings into pretty bows, while the "pipes burst" and "lights go out."
I want my people to spend their time correcting problems and figuring out how to prevent problems. The only things I want documented are processes on how to do things and how we corrected serious problems.
one must understand this....the VA employee who is the president of each VA Medical Center AFGE Union is employed by the GOV and paid 100 per cent of his/her salary and does absolutely NO work for the Medical Center. In other words, they are only responsible for union matters and lift not one finger for the hospital. Plus they get travel/tdy status. I know of one AFGE union president at a medical center who worked for six months in the kitchen and spent the next 44 years as the Union chief, all at GOV expense and not doing one thing for the taxpayer.
Nice job if you can get it, and they do get it.
Close the VA as much of the employment there is make work for Veteran haters. Give the Veterans good insurance coverage so they can go to the doctor of their choice in the facilities of their choice. Sell the properties to private investors.
The Constitution is our Quality Manual.
It is a nice start I would say though to have maiximal, punitive impact, the reason the individual was fired should be posted as well. This way, everyone can know what will not be tolerated.
If anyone were to use such a list to avoid things not tolerated but still continue to try to game the system in some other way, then fire such people too until the list of actionable offenses becomes so long everyone will be forced to forget about doing anything at the VA except serving our veterans.
It’s good to post what was posted but I think the way it is now may give some the wrong idea they can keep doing what they’re doing and not get caught. If reasons for termination were given it might stop or prevent abuse before it even comes to the point of termination. It might serve as a means to motivate the employees to self correct their own behavior in other words.
