According to Senator Ted Cruz, CNNs threats to dox the Reddit user who created the Trump wrestling CNN video could be a violation of Georgia law.
CNN discovered the identity of the Reddit user who made the video and essentially threatened to reveal his identity if he continued to post unsavory content.
Cruz said if CNN tracked down the Reddit user through his IP address and then used that information to threaten him, they could be in violation of a Georgia law.
CNN headquarters are located in Atlanta, GA.
The GA Code explains that someone could be guilty of Theft by extortion if they threaten to disseminate any information tending to subject any person to hatred, contempt, or ridicule or to impair his credit or business repute.

I wonder if this person has a case to sue CNN?
Not sure if this changes anything, but I’ve read it was a Reddit Admin that provided CNN with an email address for the guy
seriously..what country have we become..
____________________________________________________
We seen in the actions of CNN the country the destructionist left wants to make us into.
And they (the destructionist left) had very nearly finished their conquest then came Trump.
It was that close a thing. If ANYONE other than Trump won, the transformation would be a done deal.
How exactly did CNN “discover” the guy’s identity. Were laws broken in the gathering, dissemination of the info?
Yeah, and you sure wouldn’t get that from the way Twitter manipulates their trending data, would you?
But CNN is “more equal” than the redditor kid. He must be threatened, he must be made to kneel in subservience to the almighty purveyor of airport fakenewsery. His children and grandchildren must be named after the glorious CNN hosts and weaned from their mamas’ breasts onto the CNN dogma.
Or else!
? seems like a pretty strong trend to me. and twitter is not a friend of conservatives...at least overtly.
This thing is taking a life of it’s own:

The Reddit user behind Trumps CNN meme apologized. But #CNNBlackmail is the story taking hold.

Time Warner has a problem.
If Redit and CNN, both Time Warner companies, conspired on this, the RICO laws could well kick in.
AT&T would be wise to repudiate their offer to buy Time Warner, or else risk getting tarred by this scandal.
Agree. I’m guessing that Twitter sees CNN as a competitor of sorts so allowed things to continue more or less unmolested.
Just for everyone’s information, it has been falsely reported that Reddit is owned by Time Warner just like CNN. In fact it is a separate private company whose largest shareholder is Advance Publications (Conde Nast) which used to own Reddit totally.
Please stop posting that Reddit is owned by Time Warner because it is not.
Further:
Reddit used to be owned by Condé Nast, but in 2011 it was moved out from under Condé Nast to Advance Publications, which is Condé Nast’s parent company. Then in 2012, Reddit was spun out into a re-incorporated independent entity with its own board and control of its own finances, hiring a new CEO and bringing back co-founder Alexis Ohanian to serve on the board. Reddit has 3 sets of shareholders: The largest shareholder is still Advance Publications. The second-largest set of shareholders are Reddit employees. In the spin-out that occurred in early 2012, Advance voluntarily reduced its sole ownership to that of a partial owner in order to put ownership in the hands of current and future employees. The third and smallest fraction consists of a set of angel investors.

“Boston ANTIFA:”
Did you watch the video? ANTIFA is asking CNN to release the information on the guy to them so they can “do more with it”, an obvious threat to the guy.

TimeWarner CNN doesn’t realize it but they have unwittingly opened up a can of worms.
I’m sure that any communications or search engine company can discover the identity of anyone they want to.
This Reddit guy was protected by a password. How could they discover his identity to threaten him if it’s password protected? They do it by putting facts together through the web. It’s why the web companies share intelligence with each other.
Mozilla may be a free web browser, for example, but they pass their browser intelligence to Google — and get richly paid for it.
This CNN wrestling controversy may be the first shot in a battle that will allow Americans to win back their internet privacy and lead to Do-Not-Follow-Me laws that will put a moneywrench in the email and internet spy machines.
To get this mad over a gif, that you would threaten and destroy someone’s life over.. You’d have to be seriously psychotic. Most people would just brush it off and ignore it if they don’t like it.
CNN is trying to show the American people that they can destroy anyone they want for any reason they want. Americans are not Serfs CNN and trying to take away our free speech rights will land you in so much trouble you will beg for the days your biggest enemy was President Trump

CNN said the video was going to endanger people. They were right. It’s endangering the life of the video creator due to CNN doxing him.
FWIW, I don’t think Reddit is Time Warner. IIRC, Reddit was bought by Conde Nast a while back, which is owned by Advance Publications...
But there's something about Advance. I'll have to see if I can remember what it was...
