The conclusion of Justice Neil Gorsuch's abbreviated first term on the Supreme Court in April already has begun to reveal how the nine-justice court will develop.
Conservatives have roundly praised Gorsuch's first two months on the high court, while liberals appear to fear that the worst is yet to come.
Leah Litman, a University of California, Irvine law professor and former law clerk to Justice Anthony Kennedy, said Gorsuch is exactly as the president billed him: "a firm adherent to originalism and textualism."
"I think he's competent. I think he is assertive," Litman told the Washington Examiner. "He is likely to stake out his own position when he has them, which is as he has shown to be frequently, unlike some other justices who are willing to go along with the majority or find some compromise positions for common ground."

still need to get rid of ginsberg!
When do we start a death pool on Ruth Buzzy? She’s way past her “sell by” date.
When Trump names her replacement the Leftists will be jumping out of tenth story windows all over New York City.
Truth is a mighty sword.
>>still need to get rid of ginsberg!<<
Waiting for her body to catch up to her brain.
Looks like Kennedy wants out before next year. One more Gorsuch and the SCOTUS will be healed.
Oh but Ruth Bader Buzzi is really, really on life support.
Getting to the age when even the most committed doctrinaire ideologue starts to care less, or whose mind simply stops working enough to care.
She’s 84. Trump is in his 6th month of his FIRST Presidency.
There will be no credible opponent. He is going to replace at minimum two more “Justices”. Breyer will stick it out for at least another 6 years because he is just as much a militant Marxist as Ginsburg is. But even he will get tired. Especially if he becomes is the loyal opposition.
And let’s not forget Alito. He may feel comfortable in leaving now, knowing that he won’t be replaced by a Marxist martinet.
Trump could have a Grand Slam here and they know it.
All of the Evils perpetrated on us - Abortion, mass illegal immigration because of Plyler v. Doe, attacks on the Christian church under the guise of “separation of church and state”, “diversity” as a “compelling State interest”, the abrogation of the Second Amendment and absurd expansion of the First (Bestiality is free speech!) - come into play as the Warren Court is finally defeated.
It will be beyond healing. The decisions will start to be 6-3 for the better part of 30 years.
What will be healed are the United States.
Does that mean there will be more Liberal tears?
This in itself is why we elected President Trump. The Clinton appointments would have sealed the fate of the country Constitutionally for at least a generation.
No show at the SCOTUS? We'll be told "she's ill" and at home..
Yeh Ruth Buzzy can’t last forever. :-)
I cannot sing Trump’s praises enough relative to Gorsuch. But it will need at least another two justices just like him to countermand the shenanigans of Roberts, who is a weak and political figure, hence seduced by the Left.
He was rumored to have been thinking of retiring at the end of this session. But that would have given Trump the chance to make a recess appointment of his choice as soon as Congress went on summer break.
I'm thinking Kennedy is hoping the Dems do well in the midterms, so that Trump sees a Dem controlled Senate who will refuse to confirm anybody but a liberal.
Splitting likeness to the minority leader in the house
It’s really too early to tell about Gorsuch. At the moment though, I’m cautiously optimistic given the things he has weighed in on so far. I look with interest at what a full term with him on it will produce.
When Scalia and Clarence Thomas were nominated, I knew exactly how they would vote.
When Ginsburg, Breyer, Sotomayor, and Kagan were nominated, I knew exactly how they would vote.
When John Roberts and Gorsuch were nominated, I did not, and still do not, have a clear vision about how they will vote over the long term.
Just a few days ago, on a case the Supreme Court declined to hear, Gorsuch implied that same sex marriage is now settled law.
I am a Constitutional literalist, and I find that idea very disturbing.
It will certainly be a pity if the inept GOP manages to lose control of the Senate and a man like Gorsuch cannot be confirmed.
...or she becomes incapacitated but continues to ‘participate’ to the extent she has her clerks write opinions.
