A quality of life study conducted by the website 24/7 Wall Street formulated a list of the 50 worst cities to live in America, and some commonly referenced shanty towns headline it.
The 50 worst cities list was not kind to the state of Michigan, which contributed two cities to the top 10, and is home to the number one worst city to live in the US: Detroit.

There’s something peculiar with the criteria, because little Gastonia, North Carolina is the only NC city on there, while notably bad Durham is not.
We’re number one! I was born in Highland Park, just outside of Detroit.
Camden, NJ 48th worst? Obviously the whole article is crap.
Hard to believe that Phoenix isn’t in the top 50. Guess they’ll have to try harder.
Chicago’s not on the list? I guess record body counts are a positive.
I see, Milwaukeestan, WI made the list; and I would expect no less!
I grew up in Milwaukee in the 1960’s. I’m not kidding you, we could SAFELY play outside until the street lights came on; no one was shooting at us! ALL PARENTS, up and down the block, meted out discipline as needed, LOL!
My old neighborhood was all 2nd Generation German, Swedish, Norwegian, Bohunks, etc.
The same neighborhood is now 100% Hispanic, but I give them credit - it’s NOT a dump, they’ve kept it up!
However, head further towards the lake and it’s a War Zone. I have one Auntie that still lives there. I can’t believe she’s made it into her 70’s in the neighborhood she lives in.
The rest of us fled by the 1970’s. Our parents saw the writing on the Socialist Wall...
Lubbock may get bad marks only because it is relatively isolated and tornado prone, but it baffles me why they would make the list otherwise. There isn't anything wrong with isolation if you have everything you need.
Where’s Chicago? High Crime High taxes
It’s also boring as hell, there’s nothing to do there, their internet connectivity sucks, and anywhere to actually do anything is way more than an hour’s drive away.
Newark isn’t there either. It’s absolutely, positively CRAP!
Oh, and it’s eight billion degrees in Lubbock in the summer while sometimes being colder than Hell, MI in the winter. Not kidding about the latter.
What an awful website.
Phoenix is a great city.
Miami Beach? So much for the credibility of this list.
Someone paid them to not include NYC on the list.
Oh, I know. I grew up there and now live in the hellhole named Odessa! LOL!
Wouldn't it be more accurate to say just inside Detroit?;-)
That one surprised me. It should have been in the top 2!
