A 47-year-old man has been charged with raping a 14-year-old Houston-area girl who investigators say told a doctor she was his wife and they were having sex.
Fort Bend County jail records Steven Carty was being held Thursday on a charge of aggravated sexual assault of a child, with bond at $100,000. The girl’s 39-year-old mother was charged with endangering a child by criminal negligence, with bond at $10,000.

Carty is a Hebrew Israelite.

Try putting the words “so-called wife” in an AP article about Mohammed’s child bride or Ellen Degeneress’ sex partner.
This looks like the same ‘Hebrew Israelites’ that Whitney Houston got mixed up with. There are a few other similar groups. Even the SPLC calls them racists, but maybe because they’re Christian and not because they’re black.

Looking at the current state of US legislation, I kind of think this cult, with its polygamy and child sex, may be considered A-OK by the courts.
It was 14 with parental consent.

The question is, indeed, one of consent. The purpose of guardianship is to protect those incapable from making an informed decision, and parents are the natural guardians of children. This natural guardianship is not absolute, and so there should be some way for a precocious child to become emancipated early, and for the state to intervene when parents demonstrate that their guardianship is suspect.
Having said these things, the law should recognize that extreme differences in age, and that relations such as teacher, coach and pastor are susceptible to abuse, should warrant special attention. Furthermore, what normally is the cost of waiting a year or two until the age of consent is reached? Suspicion should attach to such cases.
Finally, there are physical issues with very young women that must be considered.
Taking all these things into account, usually the best way to hand pedophiles is to incarcerate them with the general population in state prison. Many men who were victimized by pedophiles when they were boys there, and they will know how to deal with the situation.

Well, the US courts would be most eager to give a blessing to Islamic practices, and Hebrew Israelites would get less preferential treatment.
But, truly, we’ve thrown out the basic standard of one man, one woman. Now there is no standard. I see no legal justification to block polygamy and I think it is just a matter of time before a court says it’s OK. Perhaps the Mormons will get it first — might be an easier “sell”. But Islam will have polygamy in the US soon enough.
And child marriage? Again, I’m not sure how effectively it can be blocked since “freedom of religion” is a trump card for anyone who is not a Christian. If the Koran says child sex is OK, then it’s OK. On the other hand, if the Bible says homosexuality is a sin, then the Bible is hate speech.
Wait for the David Koresh followers to defend this guy. Never understood why “conservatives” would support a rapist like David Koresh.
