An attorney for President Trump was adamant on Sunday that the president is not under investigation, despite the presidents tweets this week referring to one as a "witch hunt."
Let me be clear here, said Jay Sekulow, a member of the presidents legal team, on NBC's Meet The Press. The president is not and has not been under investigation for obstruction."
On Friday morning, President Trump sent a tweet that seemed to confirm that he was under scrutiny, writing, I am being investigated for firing the FBI Director by the man who told me to fire the FBI Director! Witch Hunt.
But Sekulow claimed the president wasnt referring to an actual investigation in the message, but instead a news report about one.
The tweet from the president was in response to the five anonymous sources purportedly leaking info to the Washington Post, he said, referring to the Posts report this week that Special Counsel Robert Muellers investigation into Russian interference in the election, now also includes a look at whether President Trump attempted to obstruct justice.
He's not afraid of the investigation there is no investigation, Sekulow said, adding, there is not an investigation of the President of the United States, period.
Sekulow on Sunday also acknowledged that the president was fully aware that if in fact he took this action, he would see a lengthening" of the amount of time it would take to get through the Russia investigation if James Comey was removed as FBI director, but still decided to move forward with firing Comey because he "thought it was in the best interest of the American people."
Also on Sunday's Meet The Press, Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla, noted that one thing weve learned from the testimony of multiple people now is the president is pretty fired up about this" and doesn't believe that he did anything wrong. The president wants people to say that," he said.
Rubio is a member of the Senate Intelligence Committee, which is doing its own probe into Russian election interference. He maintained that the presidents actions wont prevent any of the investigations from proceeding, and that getting to the bottom of what happened would benefit all involved, including President Trump.
This is is going to move forward, he said. We are going to get the full truth out there. I believe this is the thing that could happen for the president.
Wapo story
Rosenstein Press Release
Trump tweet
Trump should stop doing interviews until this over.
Kinda like Jesus. Sometimes the audience is allowed to puzzle out the context.
So many of these "complaints" about our President are entirely hollow straw-men fabricated out of the thinnest of evidentiary fabrics, if indeed they're made of anything at all.
Most are entirely false non-issues, and all are unnecessary distractions. Sessions must un-recuse himself and go after these bastards hard. All of them.
I think you are on to something here and if anyone knows how to turn something like this negative into a positive it is president Trump. I also think and have said for a long time president Trump has established an intelligence network over many decades and one of the reasons he has a good crystal ball is that he pays for good information.
It already appears that Mueller has a mole - so the Swamp has a mole. At this point the leaks from the Grand Inquisitors Office are damaging its ability to function and fueling what you mention - the media running with these stories destroying their credulity further.
This weekend is probably where the hubris wears off just enough for the shot callers to realize they've been infiltrated - nah Trumps a moron -but what if - oh...
Its so funny nobody used to say Mr Trump was a stupid person - they might have said many things brash, ahole, self-promotor, pompous but never anything suggesting he didn't have a keen intellect. Now as President Trump all his IQ's have drained out his ear? Keep thinking that lefties soon you will play your hole card only to have it Trumped - and thats the Art of the Deal. Look at how he is playing these marked Russian cards. Amazing!
Oh I believe that each day more and more of the rank and file are fighting. I am just not seeing much fight in the halls of Congress. The entire thing would stop if the house and senate leadership state that we are proactively going to do nothing further on these investigations - no resolutions, no committee hearings, no impeachment. Nothing.
Now, there are some investigations that they should open, but everyone knows what those are.
Yes, 100% correct.
The entire thing would end tomorrow if just 40 GOP senators would all come out as a group and say, “We see nothing here and we will not vote for conviction on any charges related to what has been ‘investigated’ so far. The Special Investigator needs to stop.”
Boom. It would be over.
Wallace is a petulant shill who struggles with even the simplest acts of fairhandedness when it comes to reporting on President Trump.
It's always, "What happens if that fails....?," he never says, "Wouldn't that be great for the American people. I can't remember having a President so focused on the people."
He's a thinly-veiled anti-Trump whore, and the sight of him turns my stomach.
I don't think so - when push comes to shove.
You do realize that Ivanka is 100+ behind Global Warming? Both her and her husband.
But he stuck guns - and by pulling out - that gave Canada, England and japan the courage to do the same thing - altho' you wouldn't know it from the press.
Merkel's "G7 is now only G3. IOW, dead in the water.
I am certainly learning to read him. Definitely not an ordinary politician. We did good this time and hired a real outsider who has the personality to fight these creatures. Carry on.
I like Sekulow a lot and saw him make this claim on more than 1 show this morning. However I was very suprised that no one asked him who his source was on this, considering the media perspective that there should complete separation between Trump and any investigators. What is your speculation on how he learned this, assuming it is true? Thanks.

BINGO
I cut off my cable 7 years ago and never looked back.
Why do people continue to pay for something they can get FREE.
I can get FOX news live on YouTube - I can get every TV channel online FREE - all the news channels, History, Nat Geo, etc etc - and then there's Netflix, etc.
I have a cable from PC to big TV flat screen in living room - and watch FREE -
For starters, for news channels... go to "TVPC" - every TV channel IN THE WORLD...free.
I don't know why people continue to pay for these 'news' outlets to spew their SEDITION
Yes but a lot of this nonsense is not based on leaks. These journalists literally make it all up.
This is the sad pathetic juvenile game they play which i have heard firsthand. Lets say a group of 5 WaPo reporters want to come up with a story. Reporter 1 wants to write Trump is under investigation for obstruction. All he has to due is get the other 4 reporters, or anyone really, to say “yes i am an official familiar with Trump’s thinking and he is under investigation” and Reporter 1 can legally print it.
Yes, and the fact that Mueller is hiring lots of people will help undermine the “investigation.” Hiring lots of people will increase communication/coordination problems, promote infighting, and take time away from the investigation as the more experienced hands have to take time to train the newcomers and cue them in. Looks like the “investigation” will turn into one big mess.
Twiiter could be a great tool for Trump, but he’s not contolling it properly in my opinion, which is resulting in lots of collateral damage. He needs to add some quality control or shut it off.
Just look at the chain of events that unfolded in late April and early May:
1. Rosenstein prepares a memorandum outlining the reasons why Comey should be fired.
2. Trump fires Comey.
3. Rosenstein names a special counsel to oversee the Russia investigation.
4. Democrats and their partners in the discredited mainstream media begin clamoring that Comey was fired to derail the Russia investigation, and that his termination is tantamount to obstruction of justice.
The accusation of obstruction of justice is absurd on its face. If the termination of Comey was a crime, then Rosenstein would be at least as culpable as Trump in the matter. As the Deputy Attorney General, he would be exposed to criminal charges as well as charges of professional misconduct.
If there was even a remote possibility that the firing of James Comey was a crime, then Rosenstein would have to step down from his position as Deputy AG as a matter of course.
He hasn't stepped down as Deputy AG, and hasn't even recused himself. This would clearly mean that the Comey firing isn't even something that's being investigated by Mueller, who must report periodically to Rosenstein on the status of his investigation.
Trump”s attorney need to tell that to the President. They need to get their stories straight.

Unlike his lawyers, the President isn’t going to wait for a formal letter from Mueller to know that Mueller is digging [investigating] as hard as he can to bag him. It boils down to nothing more than common sense, of which the President has an abundance.
Right. I couldn’t stop laughing my @ss off when I saw Trump’s Twitter message on Friday. LOL.
