TAUNTON, Mass. For a case that had played out in thousands of text messages, what made Michelle Carters behavior a crime, a judge concluded, came in a single phone call. Just as her friend Conrad Roy III stepped out of the truck he had filled with lethal fumes, Ms. Carter told him over the phone to get back in the cab and then listened to him die without trying to help him.
That command, and Ms. Carters failure to help, said Judge Lawrence Moniz of Bristol County Juvenile Court, made her guilty of involuntary manslaughter in a case that had consumed New England, left two families destroyed and raised questions about the scope of legal responsibility. Ms. Carter, now 20, is to be sentenced Aug. 3 and faces up to 20 years in prison.
The judges decision, handed down on Friday, stunned many legal experts with its conclusion that words alone could cause a suicide.
This is saying that what she did is killing him, that her words literally killed him, that the murder weapon here was her words, said Matthew Segal, a lawyer with the American Civil Liberties Union of Massachusetts, which raised concerns about the case to the states highest court. That is a drastic expansion of criminal law in Massachusetts.

Is this woman the second daughter of The PIAPS?
Only a demonrat would do this
This is such a hideous case. She’s completely depraved and needs to be taken out of circulation - so of course the ACLU is defending her.
She knew it was wrong, yet she did it anyway. I don’t want to hear about her underdeveloped frontal lobes. Guilty.
Wasn’t there a case a few years ago of a pastor or minister who told a depressed person (a boy, IIRC) that suicide was sometimes a logical option for some people, and subsequently the boy did end his own life?
In California, I believe. I don’t think criminal charges were brought, but the parents sued, successfully, I think.
Ms. Carter told him over the phone to get back in the cab and then listened to him die without trying to help him...
GUILTY!!!
She didn’t say “why don’t you go kill yourself?” during an argument.
She LISTENED to him die. Isn’t it a crime to not report a homicide/suicide taking place if you know about it?
Not that you should do what anyone tells you to do anyway.
My ex used to tell me to go #### myself all the time.
I never did :)
Three words did her in——”Get back in”.
She’s hateful,
,
I had a Christian counselor tell me that the Bible doesn’t say suicide will get you sent to hell.
There are some sick people out there.
I have zero sympathy for her and wouldn’t piss on her if she was on fire... but to me this is an overreach of law.
Props to the judge. Hopefully, when this evil sociopath is sentenced later, she’ll be given some hard time.
It’s good to know that we still have some good judges on the bench.
Oh crap, I better not keep recommending that liberal friends who hate trump should move to Sweden, France or Germany lest they get culturally enriched and I get the blame for them being enriched....
Doubtful she’ll ever grow up to be a loving mother. or any other loving thing.
Suicide, no. Murder, yes.
I second that. Today’s females have been brought up with a twisted sense of entitlement; they want to be worshipped as princesses and yet want to abuse males and treat them like dirt.
It’s about time the courts put an end to the “female sentencing discount.”
search engine: golden uterus syndrome
I thought Jodi Arias put an end to that.
+1
I hope she gets a very long time to rot in jail, time to reflect on her evil action.
I watched this trial on YouTube, from beginning to end (live stream trials are, for the most part, better than any TV). Michelle Carter remained stoic throughout the trial until the verdict, then she balled her eyes out. This was a good week for prosecution as Dalia Dippolito was FINALLY found guilty, too. Sheesh!!
