Listening to Fox News, the gun the shooter used has been identified as an SKS with 7.62 X 39 ammo, with a scope, and called a "high powered rifle."
Of course an SKS is not high powered, or particularly accurate....but the ignorance, fear, and bias of the Media--even on Fox--is already coming out--to pound the drum against the 2nd Amendment.
Same ammo as AK-47.
If one were able to take out one Zombie per 22LR round, how many 22 LR rounds should one keep in the Ammo Dump?
He came from Illinois, which has restrictive gun laws too.
My step-son bough a slingshot similar to that, without the sight and laser. I gave him some bearings from my car, which essentially were 1/2” hardened steel balls. I have no idea how fast those balls were going, but when he shot them into the woods, you could hear them ripping branches apart. A lot more powerful than I expected.
Right. It is a cut down round designed for control and more accuracy firing out of the AK or SKS. The Soviets shooting the 7.62 x 54 out of AK- 47s would be unacceptable, or using the 7.62 x 25 Tokarev would be under powered.
.22 LR I guess...
The M40 is a bolt action rifle used by the USMC and is based on the Remington 700.
I, for one, am seeking a parallel universe where I can he left alone to persue my dreams...
No need to guess, there are .22 rounds that are amazingly lethal. In fact I have read one study that was made of shooting records and the conclusion reached was that your chance of dying from a .22LR round was about the same as the chance of dying from a .44magnum round if you fail to receive immediate medical help. The .22 was rated deadlier than a .38 special which used to be the standard law enforcement pistol round. Of course you generally die more quickly if shot with a .44magnum but that just means your suffering ends a little sooner. The real difference is STOPPING power which is much higher with the .44mag. Some people don’t understand the penetration of a .22LR, it can go very deep.
correction:
A semi-automatic precursor to the AK which shares no design similarities with it other than ammunition.
Most veterans after Korea are familiar with the sound of SKS and AK rounds.
If the reports were correct that he had a detachable magazine it may have been an AK 47 ... you can mod an SKS to have a detachable mag but they are not very good, nor reliable.
SKS is an excellent Hog Gun, they are typically purchased already beat up so you don’t worry about them getting scratched, dented and abused in the field or in the vehicle and they have much better (robust?) furniture than an AK
My general approach to buying a gun is to spend as much on ammo as spent on the gun. Just to check things out after a short breakin.
22LR seems to have quite a choice of rounds, not unlike 12 ga.
More so in Cook County than downstate.
7.62 x 25 is Tokarev pistol
7.62 x 54R is rifle round for Mosin-Nagant
IIRC, Seth Rich was killed with a .22 rimfire.
High powered enough to be lethal. Ask any Viet-Nam veteran.
Judge Nap made a fool of himself this morning on Varney, telling when he once shot an “AR-47” and what awesome power it had. What a chump.
