HOUSTON, Texas Hundreds of Texans, many of them armed, gathered in Houstons Herman Park to protect a statue of former Texas President Sam Houston. Supporters of the statue responded to what they believed to be a threat from Antifa to remove it from the park like other historic monuments removed in recent months.
The rally, dubbed #StandWithSam drew hundreds of supporters to the park located near the Texas Medical Center and Rice University to gather around a statue of Sam Houston. Houston led the Texas revolutionary army against Mexico and served as president of the Republic of Texas, governor of the states of Texas and Tennessee, a member of Congress from both states, and a U.S. Senator from Texas. He served as governor of Texas when the State adopted resolutions of secession. The legislature removed him from office when he refused to accept the resolution.

You’re right, but that the Stars n’ Bars have evolved more to indicate suspicion - and rebellion if ever needs be - of the feral gummint.
As a Tennessean - BTTT!!!
However, there is no group that has called for the removal of the Houston statue.
It’s a hoax.
Do you think that hundreds of people showing up in support of a monument is a hoax?
How about it’s a pro-Sam Houston rally.. still a hoax?
Because those folks were THERE and in support of Texas History and that ain’t no hoax, homeboy.
That’s not what I said.
I said that the idea that Antifa opposed the statue and was going to protest for the removal of the Houston’s Sam Houston Statue was a hoax.
“However, there is no group that has called for the removal of the Houston statue.”
Nip it.
Nip it in the bud!
Ok, true enough. Both before and after the event.
Fact is, it didn't matter so much. Message sent: Hands off General Sam.
A possible opportunity to face up with Antifa?
Hell yeah, we can turn out a few folks. If they don't show.. our numbers did.
I can't count it as anything but a win.
“I can’t count it as anything but a win.”
I agree with you on this.
It provided an opportunity for people to learn more about Sam Houston.
It is even more interesting that out of the 800-1000 people that did show up, there were maybe ten confederate flags and that group of less than twenty people had to stand off in a corner by themselves. Yet what did the media focus on?
It's starting to look like we might have to go to Austin to live that dream.
I do not doubt that.
It’s Houston, and unless you are way outside the Loop on the SE or NE side, you are not going to see many Confederate flags.
I'll have to think about that one.
Austin, to me, is mostly about doing poorly in school and getting arrested on 6th street.
high five
You just need to get excited about getting arrested in front of the Capital.
That would look impressive on your resume along with that string of arrests on sixth street.
I should have run a background check on you.
That one will be tougher to remove, as it is 67 ft tall
Humblegunner, you have been memorialized. No stupid hater can take that away from you.
:-D
“Austin, to me, is mostly about doing poorly in school and getting arrested on 6th street.”
Austin was good living back then.
I was lucky, I never was arrested on 6th Street.
I came very close, including a riot during one of my band’s shows, but they did not arrest anyone on stage with a instrument.
Believe it or not, I have not always been the upstanding paragon of virtue you see before you today.
“Paragon”
Is that two Platonic Solids side by side?
