In this special bonus We The People podcast episode, we explore the legal and constitutional issues surrounding President Donald Trumps handling of the Russia probe.
As all the nation knows at this point, former FBI Director James Comey is scheduled to testify before the Senate Intelligence Committee this Thursday, June 8, at 10 a.m.
Comey was abruptly fired by the President on May 9, the reasons for which are under dispute. There are also reports that suggest the President tried to pressure federal officials, including Comey, into ending the Russia probe and related investigations.
So, the question on the table today is Does President Trumps handling of the Russia investigation amount to obstruction of justice?
Joining our Jeffrey Rosen to parse these important and timely questions are two leading experts in constitutional law.
Alan Dershowitz is the Felix Frankfurter Professor of Law Emeritus at Harvard Law School. He has been called the nations most peripatetic civil liberties lawyer and one of its most distinguished defenders of individual rights.
Laura Donohue is Professor of Law, Director of the Center on National Security and the Law, and Director of the Center on Privacy and Technology at the Georgetown University Law Center
She clearly wants him charged.
Will Congress ask how much Comey, his brother and others
at the FBI received from the Clinton Foundation?
.... or what was the quid pro quo?
I think not.
She can go to hell.
If Trump is forced to step down, ALL of these people will suffer terribly in ways they never imagined before is my guess.
They need to read up on their French history.
All firings are abrupt, in the sense that one moment you are employed and the next moment you are not. This particular one wa among the least abrupt ever. Starting last June, large numbers of republicans were correctly saying Comey should be fired for politicizing the job. Starting in late October, democrats joined the republicans with the correct conclusion that Comey should be fired.
From Election Day until the day Comey was fired, leading democrats spoke out regularly to call for Comey's firing. Then, when President Trump, the only person who actually could fire Comey as they all wanted actually did it, all of a sudden most of the people who had called for his firing pretended this was justification for impeachment. Liberals are disgusting, petty, evil little critters.
More fake news based on Trump hate!
Yes, she can go to hell but this is a very clear danger at this point that they are going full force to try and remove him from office.
Congress and Senate is quiet as a mouse.
I don’t think they want “resistance” from our side.
Let’s embrace the ‘Russians hacked the voting system’ false narrative and use it to enact voter ID and electronic voting paper trails. The Democrats will never win another election.
The brief description is not the meat. The podcast is.
Very lively debate.
They have NO IDEA what is coming if that happens.
I already know where i’m going to meet up with like minded folk if he’s kicked out.
All of us should.
It will mean our country.

Agree.
A law professor from Georgetown University is about as credible as a pile of horse crap on any legal matter. I’m kind of surprised Alan Dershowitz would waste his time with this dingbat.
And I’m serious this time.
I’ve talked stupid bravado before (then my wife reminded me of my age and weight and that boxing was LONG LONG ago).
But I’d (we’d) have to do something because this isn’t about Trump. It’s about Pence next and the get the RINO in line in - Ryan.
This is about keeping a republic.
Not leaving anything else to my nephews and nieces if I can help it.
You are correct.
It happens :)
The GOP leadership would not mind Trump getting removed. Their objection would be to the amount of power it would give the Democrats.
This is how electing a Third Party candidate would look. Trump has NO support in Congress.
More and more, it seems.
Keep up the good work!
And I am equally serious. Go listen to the podcast.
I know I keep hammering on this on every thread but I am now absolutely convinced they are going all in against the POTUS for obstruction of justice.
The Russia collusion (since it didn’t pan out) is just a side issue.
1. I feel that Comey’s meeting with Mueller was to get things straight on what he could and could not testify to. I believe this is because he is a witness.
2. When he testifies Thursday he will be vague, very vague but smear any and all he can.
3. They want us to think this is about Russia (we even have a new fancy report out today) but it is about obstruction of justice with all those pretty little love notes Comey wrote.
I sure hope I am wrong...
You’re not. At all.
But even the obstruction nonsense is not an impeachable offense. Censure him. Who cares?
The repugnantCans better step up!
Trump will be fine. Good points tho. No worries mate
