Megyn Kellys new NBC newsmagazine program premiered to modest ratings Sunday night, as it came in third place in total viewership in primetime behind Game 2 of the NBA Finals and a rerun of CBSs 60 Minutes, though it did top the long-running CBS news show in the key demographic.
According to Variety, Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly drew 6.1 million viewers in its 7 p.m. time slot, behind 60 Minutes 6.6 million viewers. Both news programs lost handily to ABCs broadcast of the NBA Finals Game 2 matchup between the Cleveland Cavaliers and the Golden State Warriors, which drew an average of around 15.5 million viewers.
The Warriors victory over the Cavs also unsurprisingly led in the advertiser-coveted 18-49 demographic, drawing a 5.7 rating; Kellys show came in second with a 0.8, while CBSs rerun of 60 Minutes drew a 0.6.
Overall, NBC finished third on the night in total viewers with an average of 4.7 million, but second in the demo, with an average 1.0 rating. ABC blew away all competition with its NBA coverage, while Fox and CBS came in third and fourth in the demo, respectively.
Kelly the former Fox News star who departed for NBC in January promoted a high-profile interview with Russian president Vladimir Putin to help kick off her Sunday night show.
Critical reception to the interview was mixed, though the exchange between Kelly and Putin could be fairly described as contentious; when Kelly asked whether Putin might have compromising information on U.S. President Donald Trump, the Russian president asked: Have you all lost your senses over there?

Its all downhill from here.
Sunday evening news shows have never worked before, and is unlikely to work now.
This may very well turn out to be the high-water mark of the Megyn Kelly show. The confrontation with Vladimir Putin was mostly accusatory, and he was getting impatient with her pretty quickly. Didn’t work with Donald Trump, either.
Zzzzzzzzzzz
When you know you've jumped the shark.
Except for 60 Minutes.
I can’t believe people on the Left didn’t tune in to watch Megyn prove the conspiracy between Trump and Putin.
Even they know there wasn’t one.
Yeah and those that watched only tuned in to see if blood was coming out of her eyes.
I haven’t watched 60 Propaganda Filled Minutes in decades.
I had no idea the NBA season was still on.
And who is this Megyn chick?
*Raises Hand*
We watched basketball, then a Netflix episode on DVD, ‘Foyle’s War.’ Highly recommended.
Is it possible that Megyn jumped the shark on her very first try?
*SNORT*
Her career was built by FOX News.
They made her The Queen of Prime Time.
But she couldn't handle success and let her ego overpower rational judgement.
Funny...
I’m in the same boat. I at least have Amazon, Hulu, and Netflix, but I don’t see most of the stuff on cable. FoxNews, CNN, MSNBC, CNBC,... they’re all dead to me.
I do use links here to some YouTube clips from those networks, so I’m not totally out of it.
Can’t believe how much money I’m saving in the process. I don’t have to be exposed to mostly trash either.
Say goodnight, Megyn.
I guess the hooker outfit didn’t work.
First off, it was an absolutely terrible choice. The best first interview would have been Trump, and I’m sure she tried.
Putin would have been interesting had she really allowed the guy to talk about himself, and maybe even how he can see us coming together.
Barbara Walters, Larry King, anyone would have been better prepped.
This chick is a one trick pony. She’s terrible.
We were busy binge watching The Fall on Netflix.
She’ll be joining katie Couric in the junkyard of ex-anchors. Buh bye Megyn.
