A Freep needed – D.C. Switchboard changes to limit our ability to call all Congressmen.

A Freep needed – I have the D.C. Switchboard on my phone. For YEARS I have called and a volunteer will answer and ask me who I want to be connected to. I do not only call my U.S. Representative or Senator, I call them all.

I just called to speak to Nancy Pelosi who came to Texas and called us cowards for obeying the rule of law (on illegals and Sanctuary cities). Well, now the switchboard automated asks press 1 for Senator and 2 for Representative. If you press 2 for Representative then you must enter your zip code or look up her district to find a zip code there and lie.

I’m an American. They work for me. ALL of them work for me. At least all of them can RUIN my life with taxes and laws from another district.

I finally looked up her San Fran phone number and left my message, “stay out of Texas, ruin your own State and leave mine alone. And if you don’t like the laws… hey you are in the perfect position to change the laws, so do that before calling us cowards for obeying the laws.”

My quest for FReeping.... Please pick up the phone and call both your Senators and your Representative and tell them this new system is UNACCEPTABLE to the American people. We have the right to ask for ANY Representative or Senator that is behaving stupidly and tell them so.

Years ago Freepers mailed thousands of TEA bags to members of Congress, Christmas cards to Cheney at Gores residence and attended Rallies, in fact we WERE the Paul Revere's to the TEA parties. Please freep this time. Tell them to return our liberty in this manner.

The DC switchboard number is 202-225-3121. From there you can call all of them.

I called the home office of my Representative, both my Senators and tomorrow I will call the President’s comment line 202-456-1111.

I bet some stupid democrat changed the system and most of them don’t even know it happened.

Please ping your lists and spread the word.

Good job.

Bastards in DC are completely out of control.

It seems that chances are, Republicans who are suppose to be in ‘control’ of Congress, are led around the nose by ‘democrat’ staffers.

The Congressional web site email system has been that way for many years.

You can only contact YOUR representative.

Sorry lightman, not ignoring you, been sick.

So IF my critter isn't on the committee that is important to me, you are saying I can't contact those guys? or the speaker of the House?

Sorry, I disagree, they all work for "We the People". I am a "People" of America.

I have the right to contact all of them if I so choose.

Just stating the facts, ma’am, not defending them.

We have a right to contact any legislator we please; but their technology has decreed that phone and email can go only to the zip-code determined Congresscritter.

Sending a snail mail letter still works, but probably best to go certified with return receipt.

They are limiting people who aren’t their constituents from bothering them. As they should.

I would agree with this reasoning if I didn’t know that they accept contributions from anyone outside of their district.

Anyone with a few bucks can buy access to a Congress Person or a Senator regardless of their zip code. That being the case they should not be filtering their calls from any US citizen.

Perhaps. But since we dont vote in their districts they can safely ignore us.

Which I have been saying for a while - If they don’t directly represent you, you shouldn’t be able to give them money.

Why should people in ‘Texas’ be allowed to use their money to influence a dog catchers race in ‘Virginia’?

It just allows the cost of the elections to rise and sort of takes it out of the locals hands when A Soros or Bloomberg or Koch etc etc can pour millions into races that seemingly don’t effect them...

So, this ‘reasoning’ that if I YOU don’t directly represent ME, that I shouldn’t be able to talk to you should just take the natural course in regards soliciting funds from me.

Well kind of yes but no.

I think a representative should be able to talk to anyone they like and vise versa.

But I don’t think a representative should be able to accept money from anyone outside of their district or state.

I also don’t think there should be any limit on campaign donations.

Limits harm challengers more than they do incumbents (otherwise they never would have passed).

For Senators it all got fouled up once they became Super Representatives; directly elected by the citizens of the state.

Before election of senators was simply convincing the people of the state legislature to elect you to the US Senate and campaigning was just walking around the state house and talking to your fellow statesmen. Not (theoretically) a lot of money involved.

Sorry if I didn’t make myself clear.

What I mean is since ‘THEY’ are now allowed to screen calls to virtually only speak to their constituents, that reasoning should be giving ammo to ‘my’ thought of only being allowed to accept money from people you directly represent... works one way, should work both ways...

You once could e-mail these parasites, but now they restricted their access to people in their districts, even when they hold posts like Ryan, which impact everyone.

The House of Lords needs to be demoted to their original purpose.

Convention of the States - our last hope.
