Melania Reveals She Is Catholic: The First Lady Shares Her Faith With The World

When Melania Trump recited The Lord's Prayer before a Melbourne, Florida presidential rally in February, the Internet went hog wild.

Now we know one reason why the first lady began with 'Let us pray' and 'Our Father who art in heaven' when she introduced the president that evening: She's a practicing Roman Catholic.

Her spokeswoman Stephanie Grisham confirmed that to DailyMail.com on Wednesday, hours after Pope Francis blessed a rosary for her at the Vatican.

The last Catholics to live in the White House were John F. Kennedy and his wife Jackie. Melania and her son Barron will move to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue over the summer.

Mrs. Trump did more than just show up for a Papal audience.

She spent time in prayer at the Vatican-affiliated Bambino Gesù (Baby Jesus) Hospital, and laid flowers at the feet of a statue of the Madonna.

You might try putting "Unam Sanctam" in some historical context.

It was a rebuke of a rebellious monarch, King Philip the Fair of France, who claimed to be a Catholic but was more-or-less trying to take over the Church in France. It was not a general treatise on whether or not non-Catholics can be saved, and in fact quotes work of St Thomas Aquinas where he explains exactly how and under what conditions persons outside the visible Church can be saved.

Hey...it is what it is. It was a political power grab by the pope. Catholic don’t like it. I can understand why.

“LOL!”

What does “LOL” mean? I have seen people using this expression for a few years now, but I’ve never figured out what they are trying to get across.

“Because true traditional (pre-Vatican II) Catholicism is the only true faith.”

As a Latin Mass goer, I have to remind you that there is no “pre-Vatican II” Catholicism. There is just the Catholic faith. If you’re going to think along the terms of “true traditional (pre-Vatican II) Catholicism is the only true faith” then we’re all doomed - even those who attend the Latin Mass. Why? For the same reason a former SSPX priest said this to me: “Many traditionalists hearken back to a Church which no longer exists (and probably never did).” He was still an incredibly devout Catholic, a missionary really, who only said the Latin Mass, and yet he realized - just as the Church has always taught - that nostalgia is spiritually dangerous.

Either the Church and what it definitively teaches is the truth now or it never had the truth in the first place. There is no “pre-Vatican” Catholicism any more than there is “post-Vatican II” Catholicism. There’s just the Catholic faith. Period. God got it right the first time and it’s just as right now, only people try distort it.

I find it something beyond our comprehension that if this is true, it just might fall in the miracle category. Those of us who believe in a fundamental way accept that there are those who are blessed with incredible gifts and also missioned with incredible obligations to fight evil.

Off topic....there's another thing (shocker) the media doesn't bring up. Where was Donald Trump when the Manchester horror announced? He was in Bethlehem with Abbas. Is the message that it will take Abbas and Trump shoulder to should to fight the forces of evil?

“Catholicism is the only true faith”

I respect Catholics.

I have family members who are Catholic.

I am not Catholic.

I have mixed feelings about the Jesuit pope.

Your statement is wrong.
