~ Hall of Heroes ~ Stephen Holden Doane Info from here. |
|
Stephen Holden Doane (October 13, 1947 March 25, 1969) was a United States Army officer and a recipient of the United States military's highest decorationthe Medal of Honorfor his actions in the Vietnam War. Doane joined the Army from Albany, New York in 1967, and went through Officer Candidate School at Fort Benning. By March 25, 1969 was serving as a first lieutenant in Company B, 1st Battalion, 5th Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. During a firefight on that day, in Hau Nghia Province, Republic of Vietnam, Doane destroyed an enemy bunker by carrying an activated hand grenade into it, sacrificing himself to take out the hostile position. Doane, aged 21 at his death, was buried in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington County, Virginia. |
For conspicuous gallantry and intrepidity in action at the risk of his life above and beyond the call of duty. First Lt. Doane was serving as a platoon leader when his company, engaged in a tactical operation, abruptly contacted an enemy force concealed in protected bunkers and trenches. Three of the leading soldiers were pinned down by enemy crossfire. One was seriously wounded. After efforts of 1 platoon to rescue these men had failed, it became obvious that only a small group could successfully move close enough to destroy the enemy position and rescue or relieve the trapped soldiers, 1st Lt. Doane, although fully aware of the danger of such an action, crawled to the nearest enemy bunker and silenced it. He was wounded but continued to advance to a second enemy bunker. As he prepared to throw a grenade, he was again wounded. Undaunted, he deliberately pulled the pin on the grenade and lunged with it into the enemy bunker, destroying this final obstacle. 1st Lt. Doane's supreme act enabled his company to rescue the trapped men without further casualties. The extraordinary courage and selflessness displayed by this officer were an inspiration to his men and are in the highest traditions of the U.S. Army |
Please remember the Canteen is here to honor, support and entertain our troops and their families. This is a politics-free zone! Thanks for helping us in our mission! |

Actually, I think it was I who broke the internet. The thing crashed right in the middle of the Jerusalem Thread, leaving it HALF posted. It was very weird.

Exactly. It does get to be fun sometimes, though, during the election cycle especially. Plus, there are a lot of businesses in your area that will have FB pages and you can get more gigs maybe. Who knows. :)

FB is the way to get gigs.
The old methods of 8x10 glossy photos and press kits with a demo tape don’t work anymore.
I was one of the first people on FB when it first launched. I friended a bass player who happened to be Egyptian. Next thing you know, the Muslim Brotherhood hijacked my page and were posting Vile propaganda videos on my “wall”.
I know that they have improved their privacy settings since then, but I was so spooked that I disengaged and will NEVER go back.

It’s been a good week. We had a storm move through which caused some tree damage and a loss of power for a time here in town last night. Raining and thundering right now.

I hope you didn’t have any problems at your house! Don’t need the hassle of power outages!
We had a very nice thunderstorm early this morning. No wind, just noise, maybe a bit of small hail but nearly an inch of rain that I was pleased to have!

Well, the only problem here was the power outage. I was able to get the wi-fi back up and running after we got the power back on using the old Windows 7 with the failing hard drive. :-D
