Democrats again fall short in a closely-watched election [Omaha mayoral race]

Democrats again fell just short in a closely-watched election as Heath Mello lost the Omaha mayoral race on Tuesday after a fierce debate within the national party over his anti-abortion views.

His loss was a setback for supporters who argued that the Democratic National Committee and abortion rights groups were wrong to attack the anti-abortion former state senator.

It was also another near miss for Democrats fighting in typically Republican territory since Donald Trump’s presidential election victory. Democrats lost a special election for a House seat in Kansas and narrowly missed an outright win in a special election in Georgia.

Mello, a 37-year-old Catholic from Omaha’s working-class south side, had become a flashpoint for the internal Democratic battle over whether a candidate’s position on reproductive rights should disqualify him from support by the national party after its crushing losses around the country last year. …

So now the angle is to abandon the pro-abort platform when it could result in a win.

Great news, even if he’s pro-life, this guy is a lib creep who tried to somehow make the race about Trump and brought in BERNIE SANDERS to stump for him.

If rats didn’t give him enough support cause he’s not for abortion, lol, also great news. Pro-lifers need to realize that

THERE. IS. NO. PLACE. FOR. THEM. IN. THE. RAT. PARTY.

Where was his position on reproductive rights even stated? The article only said that he does not support abortion--that's a completely different issue.

Can we just stop cooperating with the fiction that abortion has anything to do with reproductive rights, or even women's rights? Wouldn't it make liberal heads pop if a conservative candidate were to state that he supports a woman's right to control her fertility, and that that is a completely separate issue from abortion, which he opposes.

This guy ran in a Democrat leaning city and lost by a substantial 6.7 point margin. How could this result be termed as a “near miss”?

Omaha checking in. Mello basically pandered to the low information voters, declaring that he would dump millions into North Omaha, (black) and South Omaha, (hispanic). No other plan basically, democrat all the way, take from the rich, West Omaha, (white or at least working people), and give to the poor. West Omaha voted Stothert all the way.
