“What did I offer from the MSM?”

Then where are you getting your information about the nuclear power industry?

Getting my boys started on R-Pi v3 now. Currently the Mazur PRM-9000 is connect to my computer, but that and our weather station will go on the Raspberry at some point. The PRM-9000 is pricy but professional-grade. Values? So far, no surprises and seems consistent with expectations. We’re going to do some prospecting trips with it around Nevada this year so will be curious results.

After Fukishima you would think we would be quickly shutting down the nuclear industry. This industry needs to shut down ASAP.

Sorry, NO! Nuclear is still a very viable alternative. It needs to keep operating.

Not only was my family in the danger zone for the Turkey Point power plant (as was most of Miami Dade County) I actually worked there for a summer as a part of the Wackenhut Security Force. I don't glow in the dark.

After Hurricane Andrew, there was a lot of fear about the state of the plant and pop was down there a lot, checking things out. No problems. He used to tell me he had no fear (post 911) of terrorists using a fully fueled 747 to slam directly into the plant. It could easily withstand such an attack.

The enviro-whacko's were always whining and hand wringing about the overly warm water that the cooling canals were pumping out, but the Manatees loved the warmth in the wintertime! I fished offshore from there and ate the fish I caught. No mercury poisoning for me and I still don't glow in the dark.

WTC site was able to be reoccupied, unlike the DaiIchii or Chernobyl sites which have to be isolated for, probably, forever.

The problem with this technology is that the consequences of an accident are orders of magnitude more profound in not just the loss of life but of the loss of land, contamination of groundwater, increase in radiation and so on. Our species is not yet sufficiently able to execute this technology without mishaps.

Not that we shouldn’t try to master this technology, but its not very forgiving of poor planning/execution or acts of God.

Updated information: Not actually a tunnel collapse but more like an area of soil subsidence over/near the tunnel.

Well that isn’t going to tell you much, especially about reactor design.

One of the major flaws in US commercial policy has been the failure to require a standardized design. Standardized design makes it much easier to identify and correct any problems and could provide economies of scale just like in any other industry

The US Navy has operated its fleet of nuclear reactors for 60 years without an accident. Canada’s CANDU reactors have had no accidents that have made the news. France has been similarly successful.

Do you think they hide these “failed” reactors? What are the failures you are talking about?

More people have died in Ted Kennedy’s Oldsmobile than in all the nuclear power plant accidents in the United States.

The answer is that none of them ever are. They pray for them to wear out and be decommissioned before the predictable occurs.

The US is full of failed reactors (a large percentage designed by Babcock & Wilcox) and there is no plan for what to do with them.

This claim, like those in several of your other statements, is not true.

I think nuclear power is too useful to scrap because 1 plant out of 450 or so in the world had a devastating meltdown recently.

>> “ because 1 plant out of 450 or so in the world had a devastating meltdown recently.” <<

Is that a deliberate mischaracterization of the problems?

How about looking at the massive cost to utility patrons for playing nursemaid to ailing off-line reactors?

In California, users are paying an average of $28.00 per month in their electric bills for upkeep of plants that cannot be used.
