The mayor of Seattle has altered the rules of his proposed soda tax which would fund education for minoritiesto include diet drinks because affluent white people tend to consume them more.
Mayor Ed Murray of the staunchly liberal Seattle city originally proposed the soda tax during his state of the city address in February. Under his initial plan, distributors of sugary drinks would have to pay 2 cents per ounce.
It would cover sodas such as Coke and Pepsi, energy drinks like Red Bull, fruit drinks, sweetened teas and bottled coffees such as those sold by Starbucks.
The Mayor claimed the tax would bring $16 million in revenue that would be spent on education programs aimed at reducing disparities between the citys white students and students of color.
But the mayor has updated the plan after the staff of the mayors office told him that the tax would actually disproportionately fall on poor minorities, who have higher rates of soda consumption than white residents.
Murray changed the bill, lowering the levy to 1.75 cents per ounce and included diet drinks because they are by favored by affluent white city residents, despite the fact that most diet drinks have no calories and therefore dont contribute to obesity.
According to Reason, taxing diet drinks has become an issue of equality to the mayor because they more likely to be consumed by upper middle class white people and therefore must be taxed as a way to fight white privileged institutionalized racism.
The white privilege tax may be a distraction for Murray, whos facing accusations from four men that he paid for sex and sexually abused them in the 1980s when they were teen boys. A high profile lawsuit from one of the men filed last month claims that Murray raped and molested him over several years, beginning in 1986 when the man was a 15-year-old high-school dropout. Murray has denied the accusations
how can this be legal?
Right, except every tax paid by the taxpayer is a white tax. No one else is paying them.
“Pay up, ofay!”
It was evil white people who invented soda in the first place. And practically every technological advance beyond shaped rocks and fire.
Are there no courts in Washington state?
Surely you know that Seattle is one of the homes of the 9th Circus and the renegade Robart who interfered illegally in Trump’s attempt to keep out terrorists.
I'm sure if you look hard enough you can find it in the states constitution ...
Probably stuck between some hidden words...
They voted Trump so that’s where I’d head :)
I like the cold weather anyway so I can’t go too far south.
Some Mayors have too much time on their hands. Seattle must be crime free, have no homeless bums and a budget surplus to return to its tax payers....”
Here in Seattle we have miles of homeless under our freeways. Maybe Murray does have too much time on his hands due to being under scrutiny for his boy pedophilia.
Well no fk? Why not repeal the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments while you are at it.
So it’s a race based tax?
Violation of the 14th amendment.
Maybe let the voters get miserable and irritated enough to use the ballot box.
Any relation between this moron and that moroness Patty Murray? What is it with Washington state and people named Murray?

Yes we are. And proud of it.
Wow, I didn’t know I was being racist when I drink a diet drink. The things you find out here.
I see an easy solution to this nonsense.
Whites should just stop buying such products.
We’ll see how popular the mayor is then.
Obviously the city has an electorate with IQ’s below room temperature......ergo they keep electing idiots like this to public office. Who’s gonna deal with it there? BTW, I understand where you’re coming from on this.....;)
I thought black women were the life blood of Diet Pepsi? (As the brand’s largest identifiable demo, not as a soylent green aspect...)
No I think he is saying that more affluent white people need to be overweight and/or have diabetes. It’s more ‘equitable’ that way.
