Trump 'very happy' with bill outlawing future border wall
American Thinker ^ | 5/2/17 | Ed Straker

Posted on 05/02/2017 5:46:04 AM PDT by chiller

While it's commonly known by now that the new spending bill that Congress and the Trump administration agreed to funds mostly Democratic priorities, and doesn't fund President Trump's border wall, what's not widely known is that the new legislation goes even farther than this. Not only does it not fund the border wall, but it prevents the government from constructing a border wall with any funds.

“Bottom line is that the republicans got blackmailed by the threat of a government shutdown and caved”

I don’t know if this is true or not, BUT the Republicans made the shut down bed and now and likely forever, have to lie in it.

They surrendered this weapon long ago when they shut down the government (misnomer) and then CAVED! Every shut down thereafter they caved even faster, until even talk about a shut down damages Republicans.

The democrats have won this hands down.

It is being reported all over the place—why do you doubt it?

Just because it is so horrible on a policy level?

It is of course what Jared, Ivanka and the GOPe want.

You are right about his limitations. However, he is “the voice of the population that wishes to turn us away from Socialism and the eventual destruction of our way of life as we have known it over the last 200 years.

He is our “last gasp” at preserving the heritage our forefathers gave us.

The 2017 Omnibus hasn't even been introduced in the House yet. No bill number, just action out of the Committee.

Consolidated Appropriations Act of 2017 - all 1665 pages, 2.9Mb pdf file

I've half-assed searched for the prohibition asserted by the OP. Maybe it's in there, I don't know. Page 739 allocates $341,200,000 to replace approximately 40 miles of border fence.

It is clear that the President can do the ban , and yet some two bit turd in a black robe now dictates immigration policy!!!
Why has this not been sent to a higher court, and fight this crap too?

When the Presidency, the Senate, and the House is held by Democrats...they are in charge.
When the Presidency, the Senate, and the House is held by Republicans...the Democrats are still in charge.
I just don't get how that happens.

It's called the Uni-Party. So Trump won the election. Nothing else really changed.

The Republicans have a majority of the House, the Senate, the White House, and now even the Supreme Court.

Yet the Democrats still have control. Go figure.

Just discovered that my own post may not be totally correct.

“The reason for the plan negotiated between the Republicans and Democrats is that we need 60 votes in the Senate which are not there! We … either elect more Republican Senators in 2018 or change the rules now to 51%. Our country needs a good “shutdown” in September to fix mess!”

Donald J. Trump

Trump realizes what he’s up against when it comes to causing a government shutdown.

It must be a well planned out action where the public is educated on exactly what it is and is not and that sometimes it is necessary.

I’m SURE he realizes that the next shut down MUST succeed. He can not CAVE! Trump has the credibility to pull it off.

The timing is crucial. Now is not the proper timing. The shutdown must be a well planned event. Trump just fired the first shot.

3 D or 6 D chess ....., ABSOLUTELY!

I’m sorry I doubted you even for a minute.

Yes...that's what scared me....'can't build a wall in the future.' I'm sure this "future" ends in October with a new budget. Author Straker is usually pretty good, iirc, but he was sloppy with this.

So be it....attention needs to be brought on this Republican cowardice. What it amounts to is, they're afraid to shut down the government.

The word “wall” doesn’t seem to be in the bill at all. There is however $487M for rebuilding existing border structures. I believe that is exactly what Trump said they were going to start with.

I think I found it:

Page 713, Title V, section 503

SEC. 503. (a) None of the funds provided by this Act,
provided by previous appropriations Acts to the compo-
nents in or transferred to the Department of Homeland
Security that remain available for obligation or expendi-
ture in fiscal year 2017, or provided from any accounts
in the Treasury of the United States derived by the collec-
tion of fees available to the components funded by this
Act, shall be available for obligation or expenditure
through a reprogramming of funds that—
(1) creates or eliminates a program, project, or
activity, or increases funds for any program, project,
or activity for which funds have been denied or re-
stricted by the Congress;
(2) contracts out any function or activity pres-
ently performed by Federal employees or any new
function or activity proposed to be performed by
Federal employees in the President’s budget pro-
posal for fiscal year 2017 for the Department of
Homeland Security;
(3) augments funding for existing programs,
projects, or activities in excess of $5,000,000 or 10
percent, whichever is less;
(4) reduces funding for any program, project,
or activity, or numbers of personnel, by 10 percent
or more;
(5) reorganizes components; or
(6) results from any general savings from a re-
duction in personnel that would result in a change
in funding levels for programs, projects, or activities
as approved by the Congress,
unless the Committees on Appropriations of the Senate
and the House of Representatives are notified at least 15
days in advance of such reprogramming.

The problem is not that Trump is too timid to undertake a fight with the corrupt Congress, it’s that he is not a dictator and can demand which bills will pass and which ones wont.

Do you mean to say that those photographs of Donald Trump in the Superman suit astride the globe were Photoshoped?

Who knew?

Of course, it’s kinds the purpose of the bill to earmark for specific projects. I’m seeing money for E-Verify and money for border fencing.

You’d think the article would contain the actual words if they were in the bill.

And that is the question. Why does Trump need 2/3rd of Congress but Congress does not need 2/3rd to pass this crap?

The Veto is obviously a means to balance the filibuster but it is not being used, and instead Democrats are let to rule with their own veto.

Somehow we have a stalemate that should be resolved by anshowdown.
