Trump 'very happy' with bill outlawing future border wall
American Thinker ^ | 5/2/17 | Ed Straker

While it's commonly known by now that the new spending bill that Congress and the Trump administration agreed to funds mostly Democratic priorities, and doesn't fund President Trump's border wall, what's not widely known is that the new legislation goes even farther than this. Not only does it not fund the border wall, but it prevents the government from constructing a border wall with any funds.

I don’t think 2/3 is there to override him. He didn’t use his veto power.

Let's face it, man. I had absolutely ZERO expectations for Donald Trump when I voted for him last year.

I knew damn well that we were electing a TV character to the White House ... which is exactly why I supported him. The office of the president had become a joke, so there was no reason to pretend anymore.

It’s not 3d chess. It was 3d chess when Conway said that Donny wants hillary to heal.

So, no, this is not 3d chess; this is “art of the deal”

When the Presidency, the Senate, and the House is held by Democrats...they are in charge.
When the Presidency, the Senate, and the House is held by Republicans...the Democrats are still in charge.
I just don't get how that happens.

When he says he is happy, that doesn’t mean he really is. You have to read between the lines.

We can place whoever we want in Lucy's spot (Ryan, Trump, the GOP, etc.). Charlie Brown is "We, the People".

;We’re very happy with it,” the president said Monday in an interview with Bloomberg News. The plan would allocate some new funding for border security, though the funds couldn’t be used to build his promised wall on the U.S.-Mexico border. The president said he will sign the bill if it remains “as we discussed.”

Not much else he can say.

He doesn't want a shutdown especially after his and Ryan's health care fiasco.

Spicer said yesterday that the Trump admin wasn’t supposed to have anything to do with fiscal 2017 because that was Obama’s. Spicer said it was an unexpected advantage to get to have anything to do with it and that they got a lot in for the border and military.

I suspect this is a budget bill for spending until October ...I’m hoping nothing more, but it needs sunlight.

“I don’t think 2/3 is there to override him”

We’ll see. This bill will probably pass with a lot more than 2/3 of the votes. All the democrats will vote for it and most republicans will too.

Bottom line is that the republicans got blackmailed by the threat of a government shutdown and caved. The democrats have nothing to lose and are waging a guerrilla war. The only solution is to end the filibuster permanently.

I'm disappointed that the article cites the Washington Post article for the claim that the bill "outlaws" the building of the wall in the future.

It is patently true that we are now eating ourselves. What a lie, at least if one just reads the cited article. Nothing from the article can be construed as explicitly "outlawing" the building of the wall in the future.

At the end of the article, it is asked:

1) How do Trump supporters feel when they hear the president say he is "very happy" with a bill which outlaws border wall construction?

Why the sensational lie?

That’s what Spicer said. Even people negatively commenting here are ignoring it just to bash Trump.

That’s true, but Congress can pass legislation that, once signed by the president, becomes THE law until changed by Congress in the future.

"Bingo!"

Raise your hand if you think this Congress will *EVER* change the law...

I said early on, while I supported Trump, I didn't think he had it in him to do what needs doing. That guy isn't on the scene yet but he's coming. Trump did help show how to get it this far though and the importance of strength. ( not sure where that Trump went)

I’m angry, disappointed, let down, betrayed.

I do not claim to know if Trump has any grand plan he is saving, but it does appear he has been played, now, in the present.

There is this funding and “his funding” in September; I do not see a difference between now not being able to get the traitorous republicans to do what is right and getting them to do what is right and fund his budget in September; I see no difference.

I see no attempt to call them out, to shame them, to Tweet or teleconference to the American people whose fault this is. This is the greatest part in all of this. I do understand everyone here’s frustration, anger, and yes, sadness.

Yes that’s what it was, fiscal 2017 which was Obama’s. It wasn’t supposed to come up for Republicans to consider.

People need to chill and get their facts straight.

Yep! And there will be a completely different Congress, and Speaker, for fiscal 2018!

...oh, wait...

Remember that everything we read and see is distilled by the media.

The media is masterful at changing the hearts and minds of those who it targets.

Read the bill, and stop reading the articles.
