A court order against ‘hate speech’ meant Jacob Zuma, a former cattle herder, was banned from singing his favourite ‘liberation’ songs, including Bring Me My Machine Gun and Shoot The Boer. But, after listening to speeches in which a succession of obsequious cronies described him as a ‘giant’ alongside African leaders such as Nelson Mandela, Zuma delighted supporters at his 75th birthday celebrations a few days ago with fiery rhetoric instead — and in doing so sounded the death knell for the Rainbow Nation.

Can you present a reasoned argument about what a good alternative would have looked like, given what you know about human nature and the state of the rest of Africa?

(I am also a true African American) Came here in 78 after my parents saw the first Soweto mess from our living room window. (We lived on the side of a small mountain and you could see the entire city metro) Smoke rising out of that sh!thole. Got the hell out of dodge as soon as we could. The writing has been on the wall for a long time.
Naaah they move. The smart ones anyway. Australia New Zealand and the US have been very lucky to have them come.

I know two guys who moved here from SA. One of them told me that when they got here it was the first time in years his wife could close her eyes in the shower to wash her face. They had a huge wall around their house and were still terrified. He said in Johannesburg having a BMW means break my windows.
Since the days of Rhodesia, the country has always been ‘at war’.
You have no idea. It was essentially a war zone in 78 when we left. It got a lot worse. A LOT worse. When I went back for a visit in 05, my uncle was driving me to his place from the airport. He would slow down before stop lights and just slowly coast the last 200 yards with a sawed off shotgun in his lap. I freaked out. He explained it was a carjacking avoidance protocol. The infrastructure was crumbling compared to 78. Trash all over the formerly pristine streets. It had gone downhill in a big way. Today I can not imagine.
I drove 2200 km in the Rainbow Nation in 2000, stayed a week near Durban. Quite an education.
Can’t imagine what it’s like now. Driving down a street in Umlaanga I said to a cab driver, “Every house has a wall topped with razor wire and a sign advertising armed security, what’s up with that?”
He said, “Oh yes. Just like America”

When given the chance, I educate every white person I can about SA. I was ignorant, myself, of the story there just two years ago.
It red pilled me to the 100th degree.
The blacks will demand to be allowed in to work because they won't build anything. They will live on the ruins of what's left functioning in South Africa.
We know the rest of the story.
Botswana is also pretty well-run.
All the poor blacks would gladly vote for the return of apartheid. What an unmitigated disaster!

Alexander McCall Smith has published a series of novels set in Botswana featuring the No. 1 Ladies’ Detective Agency. He was born in Southern Rhodesia and seems to know Botswana pretty well. Excellent light reading.
The 18th-century lexicographer Samuel Johnson had a friend who was in a miserably unhappy marriage. Soon after his wife died, he married again. Johnson’s comment was that it was “the triumph of hope over experience.”
White S. Africans might as well bow to the inevitable power of superior numbers and get out asap. They had a good run s for a few hundred years, but are still regarded as colonists by most of Africa and the world.
The template they are looking at is the chage over from Rhodesia to Zimbabwe where white settlers have had their property confiscated and continue to be targets.
Time to sell and go.
The Afrikaners are descended from people who have been in South Africa since about 1650 (roughly as long as white Americans' ancestors have been in what is now the US) and their language has become a distinct language, although derived from Dutch. Where are they to go? I don't know if the Netherlands wants to let them in...or if they would find that a congenial place to live.
I suppose many of them speak English fluently but with all the years of the Afrikaners being portrayed as monsters I don't know how easily they can immigrate into other countries. Other than the South African Jews, who can go to Israel.
