The white Rhodesians had only been there for 2 or 3 generations and spoke English, and were a small part of the population (maybe 5% in 1965 when they declared independence but a much smaller proportion by 1980).

The Afrikaners are descended from people who have been in South Africa since about 1650 (roughly as long as white Americans' ancestors have been in what is now the US) and their language has become a distinct language, although derived from Dutch. Where are they to go? I don't know if the Netherlands wants to let them in...or if they would find that a congenial place to live.

I suppose many of them speak English fluently but with all the years of the Afrikaners being portrayed as monsters I don't know how easily they can immigrate into other countries. Other than the South African Jews, who can go to Israel.
