The "weekend cops" beat is not the most glorious job in journalism, but it is the easiest. All you have to do is check into the newsroom, grab a portable scanner, go to breakfast, visit the cop shop, ask a few questions, check the police blotter, eat lunch, scribble a few paragraphs about a car accident, then meet your fellow scribes for an after-work libation.
But you do have to do one thing. Always listen to the police scanner.
Every newspaper has its own horror story. The one related to me during my first turn on the cop beat in Colorado Springs was about the weekend reporter who thought he would turn off his scanner while he played some basketball.
The next day, the owner wanted to know how his newspaper failed to report on the major train crash near downtown, the largest of its kind in that city's history.
Maybe that is why all the weekend cop reporters in the San Francisco Bay area did not hear any police scanner traffic Saturday night at 9:30, when 60 black people rampaged through a BART train, robbing, beating, threatening, and laughing – always laughing.
Because not one word of this leaked out for 36 hours.

When I took journalism a number of years back (too many to remember) the rule of thumb was, “Tell ‘em what you want them to hear”. If you ignore the story all together you have “spoken”.

Maybe there were a few Shrinks on the BART train. Maybe you are right, maybe they would have benefited from some time with him.
Even if they were to catch these thugs and if they All plead Guilty, they would ALL BE FREE within 48 hours. California’s AB109, Prop 47, and prop 57 have made mischief like this an infraction with virtually NO PUNISHMENT!
If he can afford their services I’m sure they’d be glad to have hime pay for their next BMW. It might take years of therapy.
Or at least provided with a real disability...
All they were doing is just collecting funds for school clothing, books and food, no big issue with the MSMLSD.

Of the earlier postings on this there were no pixs from cell phones provided which might have been taken and the explanation offered was: The reason for not doing so by the cops and news sources was because they were “juveniles”.
While that just might be the case. And that would show how screwed up things are.
But unfortunately as I recall there was no “official source” attributed for that comment which would have been a verification of the PC thinking by those sources.
